I'm looking for a place to buy the nicer grade heater hose for the phh. A few years ago I purchased a pesky heater hose replacement from a guy Brett Fischer but I can't seem to find him or his business anymore. Anyone have a good lead on quality pesky heater hose replacement. The last kit I received had constant torque clamps and whatnot.

i just used an OEM hose and the below type clamps when I did mine. That was nearly 8 years ago and just fine

Or, buy a couple feet of gates green stripe or even white strip hose and two constant torque clamps like Breeze offers and use this to run from the head outlet up to the heater valve eliminating one hose and two clamps and the steel pipe. Works good, lasts long time.

If you live in a colder region, ditch the phh and associated piping. Run a length of hose from phh to the firewall. Set it up like a 1HZ/1hdt/1HD-FT diesel and install a convection heater.

If you're going to replace the short ~2" section of the PHH (and not do a bypass) then IME the Gates GreenStripe 5/8" ID heater hose will easily last 20+ years. It's actually thicker than the original hose. If you wanted to go further, consider Gates Power Grip hose clamps (bands). Lots of options.

I think bypassing the hardline is a good idea. Since the heater valve is mounted to the body, the short hose/hardline scheme pushes/pulls on the heater valve every time the engine torques on the engine mounts. This certainly can't help an aging heater valve. The hardline scheme makes sense from a toyota manufacturing perspective since it provides a nice accessible place to mount a short hose to the heater valve during assembly. It serves no other useful purpose other than to turn the hose replacement into a PESKY hose replacement :)

cheers,
george.
