You got the axle replaced allready

You got the axle replaced allready

Not yet, I just slid it in there so i could load it up then took it out and used a jack to get into the driveway then slid it back in so it didnt look ghetto.

I could tho, I have a spare short side sitting on the floor board of Fiona but I am waiting on my buddy to bring my trailer and some axle housings from a 60 we parted out back from arizona. I need to replace the backing plate and rear brake pads so I'm just waiting to do it all at once VS taking it all apart twice. So Ill do new shoes out back, a new / used backing plate (old one was frozen for parking brake anyhow) new axle seals on both sides (and inspecting the long side axle for bearing wear as it has been leaking... may have a bad axle...) then putting it all back together.

Im not gonna put another poly on the short side Ill put the stock spare i have in there and im getting a 14 Bolt that i will cut the tubes on to make it a passenger drop. should be fine long enough for me to get the 14B all prepped and ready.

Gonna keep a stock front axle as on bobby's site it says plain as day the axle warranty transfers to whoever the current owner of the product is. so im not worried there but the 12mo warranty from poly sucks!

Man I miss my truck :(

I dont know why they let the tard keep going up the ramp... the idea is to test flex not see how high you can get a tire off the ground.

Pulled the broken part of the axle shaft out this evening its crazy how clean the chromoly breaks.

All I did was pull it out wipe it down and take pictures this is exactly how I found it.

Still can't believe you broke em

Im still debating on buying a replacement Poly cause I can use em in Fiona when I drop the 14 bolt under the truggy.

You get the front end done yet ???

on? what truck?

The fenders on Patches

No I've been to busy to do anything with it the last week or so. I did order some new headlights with replaceable H4 bulbs inside of a sealed metal housing with a thick front glass tho. so hopefully that will limit how many I destroy.... Also Im gonna put HIDs in them

May fiddle with the fenders some today but I have to order wheel bearings as when the axle busted it took the cage out and all the rollers and everything are now missing from it which I didnt notice till last night. But I am gonna pull the driver axle and check for pre mature wear on the Poly that way I can get them to send me a replacement if needed while it is down VS waiting till later. :bang: Also having a hard time getting the fenders to line up with the hood for some reason and I think they need more trimmed out of them... like an inch or so as it looks like they will make pretty heavy contact.

BTW if you have a pair of rear axles you wanna sell me from one of the parts trucks leme know, cause I dont have any more spares.

I gave it away cause I didnt have a place to store it :frown: so I'm down to one set of spares too:meh: but I'll keep my eyes open for a cheap set

trim the fender bottoms too I was goin to do it to the hood level

Fender bottoms? what do you mean?

Look at the hood and trim the fender to match the bottom of the hood... like a comp cut for the front

Oh I see what your saying, to the top of the body line on the fender above the headlight location then chopping it straight off from there. You think it needs to come that high? I was gonna relocate the lights up a little bit (should also help keep from smashing them off so often) closer to the stock location and try and keep that portion so it looked like they were supposed to be there. Dunno, I know the tires rub the fire wall when flexed and turning. Need to get em on and find something to flex it on to see where and hoe bad they hit.

Ok well today I pulled out the long side axle because I noticed it had a pretty good wheel seal leak to it before my trip indicating the seal had gone bad.

I had read a few threads where people had talked about an improperly hardened bearing surface on these Poly Performance axles, after a little more research it was only a few batches from a few years ago and the purchase date of mine was borderline. and it was only the long side FJ60 shaft. most of the failures showed pretty fast in other trucks usually within 2,000 miles from a major oil seal leak. Well... since my truck is not a street truck and is a trailer queen to and from the trails it takes a long time to get that kind of miles on it. I have around 500-600 miles on them and since i had one side apart i decided to pull the long side to check it.

unfortunately I found some problems....

First thing i noticed was I had hell getting the axle in far enough to get the C clip out which could only mean a couple of things...

1.) this is why I pulled it apart to start with
2.) Why I couldnt get the axle in far enough to get the C clip out of it :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:
3.) and then I find this... A bearing surface with premature wear... This axe was doomed from the day it was shipped out but the twisted splines seal the deal.

I am not really impressed with these poly axles, I was considering buying a replacement short side and using the pair in my other truck but now seeing this Im not so sure I will. If poly replaces the damaged long side axle then I will consider purchasing a short side as well, if not they will never see another penny from my account as it is obvious these axles that are "Designed to last a lifetime" are not up to the task of only a few years. Not to mention I am pretty sure a few years ago these axles were a lifetime warranty but the paperwork says nothing about ANY warranty at all... then when I called and talked to them a month ago they told me that the warranty has changed a few times over the years and currently the warranty is only 12 months from date of purchase (something not even listed on their website for these axles)... what this tells me is that they are changing the warranty to match the product instead of creating a better product. I understand there isnt a large market for after market land cruiser axles but the one company that makes them it would be nice if they would improve their product VS changing the warranty.

It is $470 for a pair of axles plus shipping... I found a rear 14 bolt and a steer dana 44 axle with matching 4.56 gears, the front 44 is worthless to me but the pair is $400 bones and comes with leaf springs and wheels and tires to roll it all around. so for the money I dont have to buy new gears and I can sell the 44 to get a little money back the 14 bolt may take a fast track to get under the rear of the truggy...

1.) here is how a factory axle shaft with who knows how many thousands of miles on it looks (ignore the surface rust, I had it in the bed of my truck when it rained) Shiny and smooth, not dull and gouged like the poly axle is.

2.) how the splines should look (also a factory shaft)
