OK, I really didn’t want to turn this into an audio engineering tutorial.

V = IR is just half of it. P = IV is the other half.

See attached.

Voltage is basically fixed for any impedance… sort of. It may be slightly lower in voltage gain with lower impedance and higher current, but it's basically fixed.

Because voltage (V) is the same, with more impedance (R), the current (I) goes down, and the power (P) goes down. Too much current will make the magic smoke come out of your amp. When you let the smoke out, the circuit ceases to work.

As an example: 6 ohm home receivers happened because the standard "8 ohm" home speakers kept going down in actual impedance, (because: loudness) and amps that were at the limit with 8 ohms were being over driven. Speaker manufacturers do this to get higher power into a speaker for high sound presume levels (SPL, aka how loud a speaker plays) versus the competition.

The resistance of a speaker is actually a function of frequency, not one value. For example, an 8 ohm speaker may have resistance as low as 6 ohms in the mid-range, and as high as 100 ohms at the resonant peak. This allows for a certain … “creativity” in creating speaker impedance specifications. The marketing department will have its way.

Attached is an example (from Wikipedia) of an actual speaker's resistance versus frequency... note that the resistance goes off the chart at the higher frequencies, and peaks at well over 30 ohms at resonance.

TL;DR: drop the speaker impedance too low and you stand a chance of over-driving the amplifier.

But is there a baseline resistance that is based on the speaker design specs?

Customer sent me a pic of his install into an MG.

I customized it to look like the cigarette lighter!
Came out so nice I had to share.

Since I started this I guess I have to sign up for the higher powered version!
Hi BreckenridgeCruiser, any updates on your setup? I have a 24V setup on my 41 and it seems we have the same 24V JDM version in some sort of way. Any news would be great. Can't wait to order mine. Thank you.

@jallopy41 I still have not installed. I've been waiting to mount the speakers. I should have it done in about a month. I'll post up how it goes.

Hello all,

I haven’t been on MUD for a bit, but I wanted to let you know I have an Etsy shop set up where you can easily make a purchase.

But the big news I wanted to share is I now have developed a complete Bluetooth system designed specifically for the FJ40.

It’s 600 WATTS!, weatherproof, shock proof, comes with two speakers designed for this amp, as well as your choice of two speaker mounting options. I have kick plates, and something I know some of you will enjoy…

Words don’t do these speaker mounts justice so here’s a picture.

Yes… those are genuine OEM signal housings converted into speaker pods. The speakers are also waterproof!

The kick panel versions are made of acrylic and are cnc’d.

I now have an Etsy shop to make buying easy.
IN DASH Bluetooth Audio for Your Classic Car or Truck. | Etsy - https://etsy.me/3MK7y5J

This new kit will be available for ordering on May 16.
If you want to reserve a kit, let me know here on this thread. I will hold up to 5 kits for MUD members.

These kits are not like my other units. They offer super flexible mounting choices. The amp is a separate box you can put anywhere. It has a remote WIRED volume control with a ~6 foot cable, allowing you to run the volume knob wherever you want ! And it still comes with a knob design of your choice.

Another option is you can have a separate power switch, or power it through a switched power source.

I’ve been working on this project for a while now and I am very excited to offer it up.
There will be two choices for the kits.
With kick panel speaker mounts
With turn signal speaker mounts

Pricing:
$349.00 for the kick panel version and $399.00 for the turn signal version.

Options now include a line converter for running a passive subwoofer for $20.00 basically this gives you a 2.1 channel unit vs a 2.0

Okay, thanks for checking this out. If you have questions run them through my Etsy page as I keep a closer eye there now.

All the best
Angelo

Very nice !

Do you have pictures of the kick panel version and turn signal versions installed?

Not yet.
Issue with that is my 77 40 is in no condition to be a "model" for pics. However, I'm going to still move forward and get those pics done after cleaning the areas and hoping for the best.

I will post them here first!

Mounting the turn signals is up to the buyer. All they need is a hole. Cool thing about the signals is the wire loom stays hidden as its routed through the mounting bolt!

Will the new version be 2 channel or will there be a 4 channel option? Also, can this be used with a sub?

Ok, I just found this thread and a couple immediate things came to mind, first is that I needed one of these 20 years ago even though we didn't have smart phones or bluetooth. :). The second is that even though it will probably be about a year before I have my 40 back on the road, I need to order one of these now.

With that said, I did check out the Etsy shop but didn't see anywhere to select the know option.

When you order, just add a note during checkout with which one you want. If you want something unique, just message me within Etsy and we can go from there.

I appreciate the opportunity!

What are the RMS watts or minimal Watts per channel? On the 200w one i assume the 100 watts per channel are max. Can you state the RMS too?

Thanks!

Any thermal issues to consider with the installation? Ingenious product ! Patent it.
It has a very wide range regarding operating temperature.
Only place I would not recommend would be inside the engine bay. 😀

What the kick panel speaker setup look like.
