well as the title says they won't blink. i put in some aftermarket led tailights and was told to put in a flasher rated for the led's i got my brand new shiny front turn signals today and hooked everything up and when i hit the blinker they just come on and stay on. :( i have a 64 and there is only one flasher unit on it that i took out. this is the last hurdle i need to jump over before putting license and insurance on it to make it street legal. i am chomping at the bit here as i have had it for over a year and none of the electrical worked, and if i fix this everything works except the fuel gauge which i believe is junk but that is for another thread.

Do you have the part number of the flasher you got?

Well...

The site I found selling that flasher says nothing about using the 50 watt 6 ohm resistor?

Also did you ground the pigtail coming from the top of the flasher?

there was no ground pigtail. just 2 wires. safe to say i didn't get the right one then.

Ok the problem is that Led lights will not load the flasher. Traditional turn flashers rely on the resistance of the bulb to generate heat and popping the metal contact apart (hence the flash) With Led turns I suggest either installing a resistor on the positive lead to each light or a more permanent fix is to go to your local ford dealership and buy a flasher for a 2008 or 2009 f series truck, they are solid state and don't rely on the mechanical resistance. I can post the Ford part number tomorrow when I get back to work were I can access my files.

Ok after returning to work and doing a little research I found out we stopped using the Ford flasher (its doesn't last long), and went to a CEC EF 32SS solid state flasher
( CEC Industries EF-40BP Heavy Duty Electronic Truck Flasher - 16 Lamp EF-40BP 014271013959 )
But I think that any solid state flasher would work I know Grote makes a couple so you may even run down to your local Napa. Another question did you replace the original turn flasher with the new one or add it in addition to the OEM flasher? Also did you replace the front turns or are they still standard incandescent bulbs?

A LED flasher doesn't care if you have anything plugged into it or not. It just flashes. No resistors no nothing needed. Thats the beauty of it.

If you have connected it right it will flash. If you wire it up backwards I'm pretty sure it wont flash. Just something to check.

Turn signal issues with LED bulbs
LED brake/tail lamps will not flash with thermal flasher units due to their extremely low current draw. Also, with stock flasher units, the turn signals may flash faster than normal (Hyper-Flash). These installations will require an electronic flasher unit, available in our car bulb shopping category (for some vehicles) or at your auto parts store. Try to find flashers designed to work with LED bulbs, they will say "LED compatible". Often HEAVY DUTY flashers will also work with LED bulbs.

We offer some LED Flashers in our Tail/Brake Turn Signal Bulb category but we do not know which one (if any) will fit your vehicle. You will have to compare the pin-out of your flasher with the pin-outs of the flashers we offer, to see if we have a match, BEFORE you order one. Sorry but we do not have a flasher application list or the expertise to tell you which of our flashers will fit your vehicle.

Another fix is the installation of Load Resistors which are wired across (in parallel with) the turn signal bulbs to simulate the load of a standard filament bulb. We also have these available in our car bulb shopping category.
