A few days ago, I sent BS an Engine oil sample as well as a Gear oil sample from the front diff....

Engine oil used was Toyota Genuine 10w-30 (non-synthetic)

I usually change the oil @ 3,000 religiously, but for this sample, I stretched it out to 4,500...

I was also harder on the rig than usual with multiple full throttle stoplight sprints and longer idle times in the hot Florida sun :o

My main concern of course was coolant contamination and after the results came back with high sodium, I'm not really sure what to think

Gear oil used was Valvoline 80w-90 (non-synthetic)

The sample was taken @ 10,500 miles since the last change...

Main concern for this sample was of course birf grease contamination...

Again, I'm a bit confused with the results

So far, I'm not experiencing any problems whatsoever

Engine runs great, idles smooth, exhaust is clear with no harsh odor....

Front diff oil looked clean and both grease cavities looked free of gear oil (used a small metal rod as a dipstick)

Anyone else have similar results?

Everything looks fine. Once again, we have support that the 80 is very easy on engine oil and that even 5000 mile intervals are easily done on mineral oil.

For the money, I would pass on the Toyota oil and if you insist on using a 10w-30, use any good quality mineral that will be cheaper and every bit as good (preference for Chevron).

Just a note, you said the axle oil was run for 10,500 miles, their sheet says the same interval as the engine oil (4500). Maybe they goofed on the timeline?

They goofed

I wrote the mileage interval down clearly on the bottle and also printed up a sheet in wordpad in case they couldn't read my handwriting :o

Part of the oil additive package, used in some newer oils.

I would think that even an insignificant, invisible infiltration from the knuckle would show up on the Blackstone...

?

This is what I'm hoping for

I'm gunna do as they say and switch to another brand for the next change and retest, but how do I know which brand doesn't have a sodium additive

Also, what do you guys think of the gear oil results?

They said it from their report that send them "virgin sample oil" to them for no charge. Do you have some left over that you can send them? Let us know.

Save yourself some worry....

When I was using Toyota oil and sent in a sample I got the same results with the sodium. If you're thinking HG don't worry about it --- my original HG looked perfect when it was removed.

Here's the thread from my Toyota brand oil analysis

Wow

That's a relief :)

Happen to have a pic of your report? (I got a red x in that thread)

Well, I sent in virgin samples of both oils on Monday and just got the results (that was pretty damn fast lol)

I've got good news and possible bad news

Good News:

Possible Bad News:

Now the reason I say possible is because Molybdenum was found in the first sample that was mixed with previous oil that could possibly have a Molybdenum additive (or so I hope)....

I still don't see any traces of mixing, so I'm not too worried about it

a bit of grease in your front diff oil is no big deal, no worries....

Thanks for taking the time to follow up with the Toy brand engine oil, re: sodium.
