Impressive! Going to be tough to lay that first layer of dust and grime on all that nice work. J

Hello,

Looking good Billy.

Keep up the good work.

Sprayed some more cavity wax into all the seams , tapped all the nuts to clear the 2pac and assembled using S/S bolts

so glad I went genuine with all the rubbers and seals. NO WAY would the after market generic rubber seals have such detail to allow for tight corners and molded return ends to stop water running behind the joints etc. (see below)

So you attach the upper to the lower fender before you attach to the truck? Attach as
a single unit then?

Yes I did. Much easier to get at back nuts without struggling. Then bolted assembled unit to body and front chassis mount

Before I put the dash in I have to put the aircon ducting in along the top where the screen demister is. This ducting sits on top of the heater core which is bolted to the firewall. Before I fit all this up i thought I would get the heater core and the aircon evaporator tested.
The mounting pad at the end of the demister ducting had been broken off so I had to fab up an aluminium end.

The heater core failed so i had it rebuilt and put back into its housing, should be right to go mid next week.
The evaporator passed the pressure test so i replaced some screws and cleaned and painted some brackets and flaps. i have yet to fix some foam tape to all the flaps.

The excitement builds! I'm armchair mechanic now, so this is my favourite show.

One of the nylon pins for the adjustment knobs assembly is busted, so I'll have to see if it can be replaced, if not I'll check wreckers or by full assembly.

I saw in another thread where the aircon ducting was covered in insulation tape and i thought hey while I'm there!!... thanks @JuanJ

Heater core had to go in first.

I did struggle between grey and black, my son has a grey one but in the end I resprayed the dash black mat finish 2pac which I am happy with and will use on any future seen black parts outside the engine bay.
Most of the dash is covered in grey vinyl pads, gauges, face plates, air vents with only about 5% of the steel dash actually seen.

is the handbrake lever gonna be changed?
I bought a second hand one, but instead ended up cleaning the top layer of "varnish?" on the handle and putting a bit of plastic polish, the one that is used for turn lamp plastic. And it looks good enough that I gave up changing it.

Hello Billy/Billyfj7312ht,

Looking great!

I appreciate your kind words. I am glad you put my idea to good use.

By the way, the fan on my 73 is due for maintenance (read disassembly-cleanup-reassembly) in the next couple weeks.

Not sure now, a MUD member only recently gave me the part number for a black one as I could only find codes on grey and brown.
Also the new levers do not come with springs, end button, cover sleeve nor cable adjustment knob.

Liking your work!
I think i will give it a go also, the only thing wrong with mine is the condition and colour of the rubber moulded hand grip...I'll check if it comes off? or maybe i'll wrap it in black leather to match the OEM sleeve I need to order?
I only need to order the black cover sleeve and the cable adjustment knob that way.
