I'm back from my annual training. I received my rear axle rebuild kit and will hopefully re gear next Saturday if Edwin is in town to let me use his shop. In the meanwhile I have my son for the week so we've been taking him to the rodeo, kayaking and fishing.
Slowly big red had managed to find himself in some of my best family memories. Before I post up this weekend's fun pics I'm gonna put up a tech one.
The driver side shackle is kicking out again. Not sure why but as long as it doesn't break, I'll be ok with it.

Now some fun pics
This is at the rodeo. My red neck son got to chase calves with his flip flops on. I took a video but wont put it on here

Glamour shot. When I got there we couldn't find parking so I parked it on the grass.

there's a lot more pics, but it's just us fishing or swimming, too boring for this forum.

EDIT:
In other Tech related news, it has been raining hard here this past week. As a result I got my driver side hi beam wet and fogged on the inside and the horn didn't work for a few days. My electrical has been weird lately, the inside door lamp suddenly stated working again and so does my passenger rear door lock.
While driving to the lake I had trouble getting it up to acceptable speed without hitting 1100*. On the way back when it was cooler it was around 900*, there were no uphills.

Good to see yall are making memories in the cruiser :) That rodeo looks really cool.
The only thing that I can think of that would cause the shackle to lean like that would be if that SOA spring perch on the axle was .5"-1" too far towards the knuckle.

yeah that's what it's looking like. I just figured the springs would tweak before the welds would give.

?
A boost leak will cause slow acceleration and as a result you put your foot into it more which will bring higher EGT...
I have suspected a leak for a month or two. I still get good psi, but it's not as hi as it used to be. I'll have to tighten everything back up and make sure all the silicone fittings are in good shape.

It's there a good way to check for a leak?

I'm down maybe one psi when cruising. It's probably like you said the summer temps. If re qgearing reduces egt by at least 90* I'll be a happy man.

Take the air pipe off of turbo and intake manifold. Plug each ends with sewer pipe plugs like this:

For one of the plugs you need tire valve.

Then use compressed air and water-soap mix to detect the leak.

Remind me what gears you have and what you're swapping in?
I'm running my stock 4.10s and auto trans behind a four cyl turbo diesel and it feels perfect with my little 32" bfg muds.

I have 4.1 swapping 3.7s in there. I'm running the nv4500 transmission with 37 in military tires powered by the 4bt. What's your cruising EGTs?

it drives straight and Edwin says he was off slightly when he went SOA with it. I hope it's not bent that would be one more expense I'm not ready to tackle.

Thanks for the suggestion. How do you clean out the soap afterwards without getting it in the engine, or did I misunderstand something?

I just got done watching the worst German Football game ever. At least they got through. Ok so Dave have you done this leak test before?

EDIT:
Makes sense now that I reread it. Was too busy yelling at the TV earlier. Thanks for clarifying.

Yes, water and soap goes on the outside, as dave said.
yea sorry I feel like an idiot now. I read it in a rush and didn't think it through. Thanks for posting that up.

My EGTs settle in around 950°f at 70mph and I have plenty left when the turbo is working well, no boost leaks. Without the turbo hooked up I can see 1250°f quickly trying to run that speed.
Seems to me like you'll will not be turning enough RPMs to make the turbo light off.
