My EGTs settle in around 950°f at 70mph and I have plenty left when the turbo is working well, no boost leaks. Without the turbo hooked up I can see 1250°f quickly trying to run that speed.
Seems to me like you'll will not be turning enough RPMs to make the turbo light off.

What motor and auto transmission do you have?

That was an initial concern, but Johnny (moonshine) has 3.7s and he seems to be doing well. I figured it just means I'll be in 4 th gear longer. Plus any increase in mpg is welcomed.

Exactly. When towing, I have to stick to 4th gear unless I can get up to 70-75.

I have a tentative date on saturday for swapping the 3rds:bounce2::bounce::bounce2::bounce:. In the meanwhile I hope you guys have a great 4th of July weekend.

You too Mike. We got home late last night. So, I have a weekend appointment to build my cut/fab table and a new cart for the new bender.. Then maybe on to the bumpers.

J,
I hope it was fun in Vegas. It will be exactly 10 years ago tomorrow when I streaked the strip with a bunch of marines. A few days after that we were on our way to Iraq. Man that was a blink of an eye. Can't wait to see your progress on your bumpers.

Mike, it was a good time and we broke even on the trip with the :princess: winnings... So no complaints there. :grinpimp:

Finally got the swap done. Also changed out gaskets, seals and bearings. I didn't take as many pictures because I was covered in grease.

It took about an hour to get the spacers off. The red loctite glued it to the hub.

Got the rear bearings done. They had been done before and replaced with Timken. So we put Koyos back in there like God intended.

The front was sealed with silicone, the rear with paper.

Edwin double checking my work. He's a great guy, don't know many people who would open up on the Saturday after the 4th of July to let you work on your truck.

So far I've noticed the rig is faster and I can go longer between gear shifting. I'll have to drive it longer to give an accurate egt reading.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I rotated the tires. It now has a slight vibration due to the fact the rear tires aren't as balanced as the fronts were, but I needed to even out the cupping.

What did I tell you about the gears! Glad you got that knocked out.

Yeah, Edwin is all right. :)

We missed you there Dave. Saw Scott's 80, is he keeping it or selling it?

Glad you like the gears! I love the long legs you get with the 3.73s.
Yeah, I like em too. Glad I did it, thanks for the encouragement. I still need to figure out the best rpm/speed to get into 5th gear. Seems like it lugs the engine a bit.

Tough question. With 3.73s, NV4500 and the 37" tires, you'll turn about 1900rpm at 70, which is pretty damn ideal. However, drop down to 55-60 and you really need to be in 4th or EGTs will skyrocket.

ok I feel better now, those are the same numbers I was having. was wondering if My engine was tuned wrong.

I'm still trying to figure out how my rig is doing with the swap. So far here's my observation. I can do speeds in 4 th gear I used to only be able to do in 5th. I haven't been able to get it up to 70 yet because I have a roof rack and kayak mounted.

In an unexpected pleasant surprise the new diffs line up better with the front drive shaft. My rig is SOA but is not cut and turned. The old diffs were at an angle that could sometimes bind if there's to much flex.

Here's the other angle. Not bad for no c&t.
