Do these look right? I need the brakes and they work fine, but the hand brake isn't working now. I'm sure I installed everything correctly, they match up you the pictures I took before I started. Should I loctite the spacers back on or do I have to tell something inside the drum to get the hand brake to work.

Just spent the last couple hours reading your thread…WOW…I love your 60 and I love the swap and everything thing you did to make it work. Mostly I just love that Airbox you made. Ive been contemplating building one for my truck too so that when I install the snorkel it all meshes better.

I can't wait to get started on my troop carrier…..Ive taken a lot of hints from this build of yours. I will be using a 3B diesel though as Im not even slightly worried about speed. Plus an all aluminium body will help keep the weight down Anyways. Happy New Year

Looks fine from here. Likely not adjusting shoes out far enough, I would advise to tighten (expand the adjuster) until the drum is locked in place then back off until you have just a hint of drag. Road test to seat in and then recheck.

Thanks for reading through, it's mostly boring material. I can't take credit for most of that stuff. I just had the idea of what I wanted and someone with tons of talent made it happen. Good Luck on your build.

Thanks I decided to put it back together and it all works fine. I just needed to tightened everything up a bit.

Ok New Year's Eve. WE had reservations downtown and it was open bar. I was supposed to meet friends at their place and take a cab from there. On our way down the cab cancels and it was too late to get another one, so everyone decides they can only fit in my cruiser. I had plans that involved me not being the designated driver . So 6 people get in Big Red and we drive down the highway at around 60 mph. The EGTs were between 800-900 and a few times at 1000 when passing. We finally find a parking spot that was part on concrete part on the grass and was about 8 blocks from our destination.

this is it downtown. see if you can spot the owl.

As we're getting back I get this sinking feeling that something is wrong so I hurry to the truck. When I get there, a tow truck was pulling up behind it to tow. Long story short, he didn't tow my rig. But now we had an extra drunk with us and no cab was stopping to take her home, plus she lived about 15 more miles south. Guess who got to take her and 5 other drunk people home. I drove a total of 65 miles last night at highway speeds and I'm very impressed with the acceleration and EGTs. The EGTs were still the same between 800 and 900 ( if you guys remember I was having issues when we first got the swap done.) The boost would hit 20 psi easy as well.
I think the combination of changing out the governor springs, larger airbox really paid off. So far I'm really happy with the truck. Now that I have most of the mechanical issues taken care of with exception of some steering and bushing replacements, I'll be focusing on accessories.
Happy new year to you all.

EDIT, it's more like 80 miles, forgot to factor in the rubber overdrive.

So, sounds like it was all meant to be, glad everyone made it home safe, nice work and story.

It was 19* where I am this morning, and the Cummins cranked right up. No Grid heater, no glow plugs no blanket, nothing. I"m very pleased with the dual battery set up so far. When it was a single battery the engine would struggle to start when it was cold and usually took several tries. Once I even drained the battery.

Since installing the remote filter, there's been a 10 psi drop in oil pressure and it takes between 5 to 7 seconds for the gauge to read now. It used to be instantaneous before the install. It seems to take longer to read when it's colder.

I also wanted to post up an attachment of a wrangler spontaneously combusting while the owners were walking on the beach, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Anyway, I hope most of you who are experiencing this cold weather are able to stay warm and drive safe.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that it does give a puff of white smoke when you first start it up in really cold weather.

The bugs never completely work out, they morph into something else.I have a drop lof oil at the bottom of the bell housing, it can't be the rear main seal since I got that fixed before the install. It's too cold right now to mess with it, but will have to address it eventually.

Thanks I'd love to meet up. You should join the Austin club, we meet every last tuesday of the month at Rudy's. There's a few diesels in there and good guys with tons of knowledge. I've been to Hidden Falls a few times, I like it there, though I try not to crawl on hard trails. I'm making this more into an expo rig than a rock crawler.

I will try and make it up there when I finish the SO conversion on my wagon! And I know what you mean I'm not about the hardcore trails.. I couldn't imagine rolling it or doing something that I would regret..

I've always had some driver side lean with Big Red, but I've been noticing it more lately. Not sure if it's the weight of two batteries plus my fat ass or it's just in my head. What's the best way to correct this? Swap the rear springs to the front (if that's even doable), re -arch the current ones or order new heavier duty springs and if so what's recommended. I'll post up pictures of how bad it is when there's better light outside. Thanks.

The surface is a bit slanted, but it still has a noticeable lean. What's the best way to tackle this. By best way I mean cheapest safe way.

Edit :stupid phone wont let me fix the picture. Will fix it In the morning

All of my cruisers have had some lean (40,61,80,100). Just roll with it. It fits your gangsta look :)

I'd keep the stock springs due to ride comfort. HD springs on an SOA would be stiff and feel like crap on a tall truck.

That you dare to park in a city is a steel balls thingy  owl@10?
I just hate every place to park if there are more people around than me, last weekend in Luxembourg I woke up early and left the hotel at 5:15 in the morning and a friend was seriously thinking the HJ got nicked when he heard it starting :hillbilly:

That angle looks like a broken spring, but I suppose they are all fine so no idea. Maybe a broken spring replaced with one old pack.

Taller rear spring goes on the driver side here in the states...
Swap springs side to side...
A friend of mine just picked up a rough Series III Rover and the PO had installed a taller shackle on one side

We all carry firearms in Texas and can shoot to kill in defense of property which includes vehicles . As a result no one steals :D.

I thought it could be a broken spring as well, but it's not. It just bothers me because I have an obsession with symmetry, but it's still functional, so I won't be shelling out a lot of money anytime soon.

Will swapping them fix the lean or make it go the other way?

.....

owl at 12. It's the building directly behind the truck, at certain angles it looks exactly like an owl.
