What the hey? You got a mechanic involved? Well la-tee-da!

Just kidding. I know you're psyched to be getting your C4bt installed. Did you have any luck with you serial number at Endurance?

The Dakota Digital tach interface is the way to go. You will have to drill a hole through your adapter and tap it. Then you screw in the sensor intil it hits the flywhell and back it off jus a bit, making sure the flywheel can spin freely. You then enter the number of teeth on your flywheel and it counts them. My buddy here in town can't remember if you need another unit with dip switches to make it work with the stock FJ tach. Anyone?

I got a mechanic involved because it's the only way I can get this thing installed sometime this year. I leave back to Iraq on Friday, so I'll be living vicariously through your posts again.

Get us some pictures of those up-armored FJs. Including the d4d engines in them. Inquire about getting one of them! Ooooo.....

And, be careful over there.

There are a few up-armored with the full floating axles and 1HD-T engines they were just giving away to the Iraqi government. I talked about buying one, but the issue will remain on how to transport it to the US. It will more than likely get stolen at the Iraqi port before it makes it on ship. Will try to take pictures when i can, the ones we are using have systems in them not meant to be made public knowledge.

Because everyone likes pictures, here's the sad state of Big Red as he awaits his heart transplant. I know I don't have much technical stuff to add to this forum right now because I'm gone most of the time. But I want you guys to know that reading your threads helps me pass the time and keeps me looking forward to coming home and adding more things to an otherwise awesome rig. I've already added all the toys I want to my bike, so this is my only focus now.

Are you saying you're driving a super-secret FJ? Now I really want one!

"No, that's my super-secret FJ with genuine Middle Eastern dirt on the engine. You're not allowed to look at it, close your eyes."

it's the 200 series that are up-armored. There are a few 100 series too, but we keep those for travel inside the FOB or give them to the Iraqis. They aren't too fond of letting us take pictures of them, but will try. Not sure why, from the outside they look like the factory land cruisers. All the systems are on the inside. About 80% of the regular SUVs are land cruisers there, usually older models. Most of the suburbans are beat down or broken.

No worries. Don't get yourself in trouble. I mean seriously, do I want to be the guy who made your trip back to Iraq tougher?

This rig is going to be sweet with a 4BT in it.

Just saw DAVEGONZ's rig with the 4BTA engine in it. Had to change pants twice. I can't wait for it to be done. Unfortunately it might be six months till I get to drive it.

Ha, it was good meeting you Mike. We had a pretty good turnout last night.

Stay safe and we'll see you in six months.

Same here Dave, thanks for taking the time. I'm heading down to Edwin's for a little bit if you can, swing by.

OK long day today. I'm doing my final things before packing. Went to see Edwin about turning the engine on. We had a few setbacks, some really hilarious, but we got it going for a bit. We ran it a few days ago but didn't plug in a hose, so it sprayed oil everywhere. Today we plugged it with a oil pressure gauge( btw what's normal oil pressure for this thing?, it was giving us 75 PSI at Idle).
At first, we had trouble finding a charged battery, then burned out his charger, then had trouble with air in the lines, then Edwin got sprayed with power steering fluid then Diesel. Got those on video, but promised him not to post them. Instead I got the final attempt posted where it turns on and runs for a bit before it blows out the fuel return line. Overall I'm pleased with the engine, (relieved that it actually works, it sat for about a year.) Hoping sometime next week the swap will start. I'll be in Iraq by then so my updates will die down, but will try to get someone to post pictures and videos as we go.
In the meanwhile I'll be living vicariously through this forum, you guys are awesome and motivate me to spend more money.

From this thread:
No Oil Pressure

A freshly and properly rebuilt Cummins 4BT should be showing more like 65-70 lbs startup, 80+ in winter, and running values of 50-60 lbs, of course dropping at idle.

Some folks may tear down an engine, slap in some new bearings & rings and call it good, but it's not. Precise clearances are the key to adequate oil protection of bearings & reciprocating assembly. Top quality parts and precision measurements are a factor as well.

I think you're OK since you were probably rev'ing it higher than idle (850 RPM).

Thanks Dave. I searched on 4btswaps but didn't find anything worth a lick. You saved me a lot of searching on a slow internet. I'm excited to have this thing done and ready by the time I'm back. The dakota box should arrive tomorrow.

Just saw this post...

I had the privilege of riding on the passenger seat in Big Red last year at the Roundup. This is a nice truck!

Look forward to seeing the progress and meeting you when you get back.

Stay safe & thanks for serving!
