(I could be wrong but I'm assuming since you put the sliders on you have been home to drive big red) and my truck is set up pretty close to yours (not nearly as clean though). I'm planning on regearing to 4:11's with 36's because I got a good deal, but I'm a bit worried I should go lower. How do you like how your truck handles the 37's with your gearing?

Great looking 62 though!

Yeah I was home for two weeks and got to drive it and install the sliders. I didn't get to take it off road but I drove it everywhere. The only complaint I really have is the anemic 3fe engine (anemic in comparison to the D4D). I drive up-armored Land cruisers everywhere in Iraq and we have them in diesel, so going to a gas engine was a disappointment that I hope to fix with the 4bt. As far as the gearing goes, the cruiser does get to 60-65mph on the highway, you just gotta build up the momentum, and some of that is because of the 4 speed transmission. Texas is pretty flat so for my purposes the 4.11 is OK. But I won't really know until i take it wheeling. And to be honest, I rather save the cash for lockers than to re-gear.

hey thanks for the reply man. And I'm looking foward to following the 4bt swap if you decide to do a write up. (you definately should if you have the time :p)

The swap will start while I'm overseas. I hope they take lots of pictures while they do the transplant . I will definitely post anything I have. In the meanwhile here's a picture of the new heart. It's dirty I know. oh yeah and the sliders. I insisted they make them with cat converter protection. Now that I'll be going diesel, it was for nothing.

Motor swap

Still interested in your old motor and trans. Would like to hear it run before it is pulled.

I'll ask my girl to run it and film it this weekend, or if you're near Georgetown you can see for yourself before it goes in to the mechanic. I'm keeping the A/C to put in the new engine. How bad do you want the 4spd? the mechanic was asking for it.

Swap

Needing the 4speed for a little while will update to 5speed once funds are available. is the Tcase getting replaced?

Nice! I love that body style. Get home soon and enjoy!

Awesome that you are getting this started while you are overseas. Make it home safe and thanks for your service! You ever happen to be in my neck of the woods you can count a beer (or four) on me!

as promised to fl4031003 , here's the video of the engine running.
Big Red Engine - YouTube
it's not the most exciting video by any means, but it shows that the engine runs and purrs. I tried uploading more pictures, but the internet is super slow here right now. I'll try again later.

Looks great, I'm sitting in India wishing I was home working on my rig. Only 1 week to go! Where did you get the sliders? They look good.

Sliders from Cruisin Off Road - Armour for Land Cruisers Jason was great to work with, I ordered them from Iraq and Jason kept be in the loop on everything he was doing and sent me pictures. I'm still in Iraq but won't be going home in a week, so I envy you.

Well my girl dropped off Big Red yesterday to get his new power plant installed. Barring any complications it should be done in about 5 weeks. However I have this nagging feeling that something will come up and will go way over budget. Fingers crossed.

Who's doing the swap in Austin?

Land Cruiser Specialist in Austin is doing the swap. Edwin the owner is the one I bought the cruiser from, he's had it for about 10 years.
