BFG vs Nitto. Lookin for Some A/T's

I think the plane will take off because of the airfoil shape of the propeller, the wheel bearing friction is not relevant.

For me...not a single flat in 10-years on my 100 on over 100 trail trips.

But that doesn't matter...nor does your information about all your flats.

Things happen and tires go flat...no matter bargain and/or premium.

WOW. 100 whole trips in ten years. So you went wheeling a average of 10 times a year? That isn't that much at all. You are nuts if you think Nitto is a crappy brand. If you think Nitto's are bad, than you must think Toyo's are bad too:doh:

One of the guys I wheel with here (my03fourRunner is his screenname) wheels his 03 4Runner harder than just about anyone, even jeepers, and he puts your pics to shame. I can't even count how many damn flats he has had on his BFG AT's. He always carries two spares. I bet in the lat 3 years he has had ten flats. It is a running joke about how many times we will change a flat each time we go out. The only reason he still runs them is Discount Tire keeps giving him new tires when he gets a flat.

John, if you base all of your purchase decisions on what companies have the highest sales numbers, then I'm afraid you're missing out on some very good, albeit lesser known items.

Ummm, never said that. I have had an incredible experience with them for 10-years. I've climbing things with them where guys in other trucks would slip. Then discovering they are the #1 seller a few years later solidifies my opinion.

When I bought my first set I had no idea they were the top seller.

Oh...and by the way, I own a Pioneer KURO TV...not a top seller whatsoever (due to high cost). Nice try though......
Oh...and an Rx8...LOL!
Oh...AND LAND CRUISER...A REAL SALES DUD!

Nice try!

stop feeding the .......

See, another case of "selective reading". Show me where I ever said Nitto was crappy or bad? YOU CAN'T! You shotts haters simply misread and then hate when you disagree. That is hilarious.

Nitto is a fine product...but not a premium one. That's what was said though some get their feelings hurt so easily when somebody says something's better than what they have or like.

Nice try? What am I trying to do? I was merely referencing the fact that you keep mentioning that "the sales numbers have your back", and emphasizing the point that sales numbers alone have no real bearing on the quality of a particular product. There are alot more factors to consider which you are blindly overlooking.

...and for the record, I don't care how much money you make, how many cars you own, what corvette you are going to buy, how expensive your TV is, blah blah blah. And I doubt anyone else on here gives a crap either. Good for you though.

i am pretty sure "shotts haters" = the 100 section of ih8mud

They "will never go on your vehicles" yet they are "a fine product"? You didn't seem to be touting Nittos as a "fine product" initially.

Give me a break.

Back on topic, well sort of at least. I have always been a huge fan of the BFG AT KO’s. Talk crap all you want about outdated tread pattern on the BFG’s. They just plain work well and look good in my opinion. At least in the southwest they are great compromise of a good street and trail tire. I’ve been fortunate and have never had flat on the trail with my BFG AT KOs. I’ve pickup a few nails around town but that’s not the tires fault. They are in my opinion a little over priced. I was able to buy a bigger sized MT for $36 less per tire. I would have most like bought them again for my 100 again except they do not come in the size I wanted (295/70-18). BFG’s however are not the best built tires on the planet. My 35 inch AT on my LC 80 took quite a bit of weight and several attempts to balance. This to me means they have poor quality control. I am getting a more aggressive Nitto Trail Grappler MT installed today. I have heard from individuals and tires shops that these tires (Nitto’s in general) require very little weight to balance (high quality control). For what every it’s worth this has been my experience. Pick what ever tire works for you and your diving conditions.

Funny you mention that. A friend just had 33 BFG's put on his 03 LC and same thing - zillion weights on the rim.

I think this is where you lose credibility. Unless you have walked both manufacturing plants with the tire engineers themselves describing how these tires are constructed you have no biases for your conclusion. Heck if you al least owned both tires and wheeled them you could make a personal opinion but you haven’t. So really the only tire you should comment on is the BFG’s.

Correct...have not in several years. Scorpion was their last #1 pick.

Wow, do you ever think, or just run that big mouth of yours? Consumer Reports has never tested the BFG A/T in any form. The current top A/T pick on Consumer Reports is the Cooper Discovery A/T 3, followed by the Michelin A/T 2. The BFG Rugged Terrain, the A/T that CU tests, is ranked 7th, immediately above the Scorpion ATR.

I ran BFG A/Ts until last spring. I always have been happy with them and never had any failures. Their weakest issue was hydroplane resistance. This last time I went with Bridgestone Revo IIs. For my use they have been great, better rain performance and surprisingly, better on snow covered roads. For my expedition style of off roading, they have been more than adequate, and others that run their trucks hard have claimed they equal performance off road to the BFG A/T. So far the only downside I have had is they don't have as good of steering response and treadlife remains to be seen.

Suggestion! The best approach to an all knowing person is to "totally ignore their existance". When pitiful attention seeking persons fail to get the attention they crave, they typically go away and spend the rest of their lives looking at themselves in a mirror. Besides who cares what they think? Seems no one really does.

Durn, I might buy four different tires. One from Goodyear, Nitto, Bridgestone and Michelin. Put them on at the same time and see which one does the best. I'll try to keep them the same size. I'll use a used BFG as a spare.

I have a lot of experiance with BFG ATKO's. I ran them on my 80 till I went to 35's and wanted a mud tire

I put them on my wife's 4runner and on my daughters trucks.

They are a great dependable tire. Good in snow and ice, great on slick rock in Moab and most wheeling conditions. They did slip when I was wheeling in Flat nasty, loose rock soil. One of the reasons I went to an MT for the Rubicon, but the AT's would have done fine there.

The BFG AT KO is a very long lasting tire. Think I had 45K Miles on my 80 when I swapped and could have gotten another 10-20K miles out of them. It also is very quiet on the highway. I have noticed cuts and slices in the sidewall from rocks more so than the heavy sidewalled MT's I bought

The 100 came with NT Grapplers. I haven't had them for the winter yet, but they handle nice on the road and are quiet. To me, the road behaviour of the BFG ATKO and the NT Grappler are similar enough it's hard to tell a difference. I don't know how long lasting they are in comparison to the BFG's or how the perform after 25K miles.

I have only wheeled on them once and they seemed to do fine, but it wasnt anything to really evaluate them on. I will be doing a 5 day trip through the Maze next month and that should provide a better opportunity to evaluate the offroad performance. I do know Tools r Us and others love the Grapplers for wheeling and I value his opinion.

From what I have seen so far, both tires are a good choice and you couldn't go wrong with either.

Dont usually find second rate, poor quality tires on Offroad Racing Teams for their rigs.....Toyo and Nitto both have found themselves on a large number of race teams and even won a few offroad races.....so must be doing something right.

dry conditions...BFG AT are great....snow or light mud or heavy rains and they are less than average.

Put BFG AT here and they are like slicks...i was able to keep moving and never needed a pull or push this trip.

it was borderline for the NTG but from personal experience with both the Terra Grapplers handled less than optimal conditions better....even if not good as needed.

now it was slimy gooey red clay and I was sliding all over but I was able to maintain forward momentum and complete the trails without a winch, strap or hi-lift being pulled. I got high centered once but got off of it too...

This trip in my FJC and another to The Gulches under similar conditions is why I made the jump from Terra Grappler to Trail Grappler. :)

yeah this thread needs to die.......even if it is fun.:flipoff2:
