My Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2's
Six weeks ago I replaced my Yokohama AT/S tires that I got almost 50K miles out of - they had starting cupping and became loud. I "upgraded" to Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2's at $214/each. I just wanted to try something different, I had no complaints (other than the cupping the last 2-3K miles) with the Geolanders.
This past weekend was my first off-road trip with them, my deer hunt. Lots of rocky dirt roads here in AZ - second day just at dark driving back to camp and...POP! PSSSSSSSST! Right front tire was down to the rim in about ten seconds. Long story short, spent 45 minutes with a small floor jack on a rocky incline putting the spare on in the dark.
There was NOTHING of significance in the road for 100 yards prior to the blowout. There was a 3-4 rip on the inner sidewall - perhaps something from driving around earlier in the day...?
Anyway, Discount Tire replaced the ruined tire free of charge today even though I did not purchase the Road Hazard Warranty. I told them I do NOT want these tires, I have no confidence in them. I've been going over these roads for about 30 years now in various tires, NEVER had something like this happen! Discount has stated that they will credit me 100% of what I paid, and will not charge me to mount and balance any new tires I want to replace them with. Very good on their part, that's why I love dealing with them (generally).
Anyway, I'm leaning towards the Cooper AT/3 tires, looks like a nice deep tread design and 3ply sidewalls. I do not like the BFG AT's personally, and have a hunting buddy that just put a new set on his Jeep and he says they're loud (that's compared to the Mickey Thompsons he just replaced, too!).
I will personally never put a set of Bridgestones on any of my vehicles again. Just wanted to share my experience with these "highly rated" "premium" tires.

Sorry to hear about your issues with the Revos, Phx. Probably a sidewall defect, happens to every manufacturer at some point. Too bad yours happened at the worst possible time. Murpy at work.

Don't the DuraTracs have thin sidewalls?
Yes they are paper thin. That's why they are the best. I now have 1500 miles on mine.
I am interested in the Duratracs but I have reservations about getting them because the trails here in AZ have a lot of jagged rocks that can slice or puncture a sidewall.
I sympathize with Phx99cruiser and completely understand his position regarding use of the Dueler, I would probably do the same in his shoes, no pun intended.
However, this is the first case I've heard of Dueler failure, so I personally will take this as a single data point to file away for future reference. I've run three models of Duelers for well over 200k miles on several trucks with plenty of offroad, no issues. So for me, the bulk of evidence still indicate the tire is a good one.

I think the whole sidewall issue on the DT's is far overblown. Are there "beefier" sidwalled tires out there? Sure. But my 305's are an E-rated tire, and short of driving a trail lined with ginsu knives I'm not too concerned about sidewall strength. I've had no issues on any of the trails I've run so far.
The sidewalls on BFGs (my biased favorite) are not great. Not necessarily thin but definitely not durable. Just saying. I've road hazarded 4 of them now in the past year.
I am at Camelback Toyota getting the same tires installed on all 5 of my rims. Guardian pm me the price you paid and I will send the price I paid. It would be good to compare notes...

BFG A/T KOs - Great Performance For My Needs
I bought my Model 80 LC back in March. I am a true believer in buying the absolute best tires money can buy as what is the point in having a superior traction vehicle if what is touching the ground can’t deliver the traction you need. I needed new tires so I consulted many of the post on mud and I also talked to the folks at Iron Pig and Slee. I viewed the posts on tires and listened to recommendations from the experts through the lens of my stated needs:
-5 tires that have to work great on and off pavement as I am not going to buy a separate set of rims and tires
-80% onroad (just being realistic)
-Excellent Snow and Ice performance
-Good offroad performance
-Not too noisy
-Decent tire wear
Most of the posts I read on mud pointed me directly to BFG A/T KOs. The guys at Iron Pig recommended either BFG A/T KOs (great all around on and offroad tire) or BFG KM2s (if you are more focused on offroad and not worried about snow and noise). The guys at SLEE recommended Nitto (their comment was that the BFG A/T KOs are old technology – not sure if accurate – just reporting what they said).
Well after much research and consideration I went with the BFG A/T KO.
I have now put on 10K miles on them and they have been awesome!
I have been offroading at Rauch Creek on the Green and Blue trails many times (full of pointy sharp rocks and stumps), run steep muddy mountain trails in the George Washington National Forest, did some rock crawling, ran muddy trails in hellatious rain down pours during a tropical storm – never lost traction – super impressed with the performance!
Only got stuck once however that was because my 16 year old son deliberately drove the 80 into a mud sand pit up to the frame – so we had to winch it out – not the tire’s fault (see attached photo). I have yet to try them out on snow and ice so cannot personally attest to bad weather performance.
I have also run on pavement through mountain passes in PA during torrential down pours (1+ inches plus of water on the surface) at highway speeds and never hydroplaned or lost traction while tractor trailers and other vehicles littered the side of the road waiting out the rain.
Now granted my experience with BFG A/T KOs is limited to 6 months and 10K miles, but so far they have been awesome!

Note on the good year DT's : At least here in Texas they have become very hard to find in any desirable size and when I have had tire shops contact the manufacture to see about ordering them they have been told by good year that they are no longer orderable (is that a word?)
Not sure what to make of that.
