I am Overlanding in a 2013 Tacoma Double Cab with the normal mods like suspension lift, rock slider, etc.
I am retiring my BF Goodrich 12.5x35R17 'mudders'. For things like MOAB, they served me well, however, my days now are more about Surf Fishing and travels to remote areas out West with other things mixed in randomly, like Minnesota, upstate New York, and New Hampshire, etc. Next year, I am planning on traveling to the far edge of Alaska.
I need a more 'balanced' tire today. I am also more inclined to knock out big highway days to get somewhere I want to go and spend an extra day or two there, versus a slower, more leisurely backroad journey. One of the new hybrid A/T-Mudder options seems to be the right one. Trying to review options online is tough. Some swear about Yokohama, others like Hankook, or BF Goodrich, and others.
Right now, I am leaning towards the Toyo Open Country RT Trail tires. I like that they are 3PMSF winter/snow rated, however, one dealer suggested the lugs are soft and would tear out. I should note this dealer is in East Texas, in a heavily farmer/rancher area with commercial logging too.
TIA,
Sid
