BFG KM2 255/85/16 Discontinued, What do I do Now???

I see Toyo just came out with their newest tire. the R/T. It's a really aggressive A/T or a mild M/T, just depends on your perspective. They make it in a 265/75r16 that's 32" tall & 10.5 wide, which is right about what the BFG actually measured.
The 255/85 is 33.3". Larger dia than the 285.
FYI according to the tire rack website they are back in stock and I was talking to my local Discount Tire and they were on back order not discontinued.
The were quite adamant when I started this thread. Discount called BFG Michelin at the time to confirm. Perhaps BFG re-evaluated.

Good to see them back in stock!

There goes my excuse for not getting the 74 put back together for fear of damaging a tire and not being able to source a replacement. I better get my butt in gear!

You might want to measure a new BFG on a wheel. They do NOT measure to their advertised specs! No BFG has measured what it was advertised to measure, from my 20 years of running them. A 255/85 is closer to a 32" than it is to a 33-34".
Also, I was referring to a 295, not 285.

Very good news, indeed! Thank you, sir!

I think they still gave you the info as best they knew it. The part number was supposedly what was discontinued, as they had to redo the mold to include new gov't required info for some place they are sold...at least based on the spotty info I saw. Plus they seem to make them in batches, which is why they go on B/O frequently. New mold, new batch, same old tire is what was supposed to be the result.

Very poorly thought through process as far as keeping people informed. Glad the tire is much better than their marketing dept is these days.

285/75/16 is also back.....and 305/70/16 is MIA.

Swamper LTB is pretty rad. Had one as a spare, ran it a few times and was pretty impressed at how well it did. I believe it was a 34x10.50

Isn't this bias ply?

yeah, it is bias ply. Looks like good tire, 33.6", weight in line with the BFG, but invalidated for a DD rig.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I received 3 of my 5 255/85R16 KM2's from 4wd Hardware 2 months ago when I ordered them during a labor day sale and now they keep telling me 3 weeks until my remaining 2 tires come in from back order. Anyone have new news on this? I'm getting tired of waiting and want to know if I should just get a refund, or if anyone else has 2 in stock, or if I should just hold out for them to come back from backorder? I wasn't in a rush because I had to rebuild my axles and install a locker, but the mechanical work is all done and now all I'm waiting on tires! Getting antsy.

They seemed to be running these in batch production before this poorly handled transition to a new part number. I know they announced they'd be back. Not sure that meant right away. I wouldn't cancel the back order until you're sure you have two more actually available now otherwise you might lose your place in line. I suspect there will be some pent-up demand and the first run out will likely not last long. Just IMO.

Try Walmart and Discount

Try Walmart and Discount

Just got off the phone with Walmart, they're saying they can have a pair to me by Friday... but I need to stop by the store in person to place the order. No big deal. Price is higher ($265 each vs. $205 each that I paid during the sale from 4wd.com) but at this point I just want to drive my truck. No Discount tire in Tampa...

Edit, on the phone with the 4wd.com guys, they're claiming the Walmart KM2's are somehow different than the 3 I already have? Subquality in some way... any truth to this?

I ordered mine online from Walmart for in store pickup. But good news!

Thanks for the help!

I ended up calling up Tirebuyer.com and they had 150 something in nationwide stock, so they said 3 business days and I'll have them. $515 shipped for the pair. Not a screaming deal, but Walmart was going to be $567 for the pair once you included tax. Sheesh. Who knows what the deal with 4wd.com (4wd Hardware) is and their backorder claims. First and last order through those guys. Kept blaming it on BF Goodrich... if you don't have something in stock, don't send me half my order then string me along for 2 months...

SKINNIES NEVER DIE, they only get meaner.

I had no idea that the toyos came in a 255/85. Good to know, although I will most likely not need tires for a couple of years.

Did you ever find out what this comment meant?
