Which is the best (better?) Lift kit between CCOT 4" HFS or Man-a-fre Safari 4" system w/ shackle reversal?
On a BJ 40, not a rock crawler more of an expedition type. With 33x12.50 tires.
Is the shackle reversal really an improvement? Cost is not a deciding factor their both close enough in price when I'm done, I just want the best system.
I'm planing on using Man-a-fres' taller front shock towers also if that makes a difference.

i can't say which is better, but i have had a good experience with the 4" hfs lift. i don't know if a shackle reversal is necessary for an expedition rig. and if you aren't thinking of going with huge tires, have you given old man emu a thought?

Hi All:

Ha! I love the thread title "What is the best lift kit?" that is sure opening a can o' worms!! :D

I have three buddies running the CCOT "HFS" 4 inch lift and they all seem satisfied with the money they spent. It will provide plenty of left for those 33 inch tires.

I'm not a big fan of shackle reversals period, and the type of SR thjat M-A-F sells has a reputation as a "rock finder" since it hangs down to low.

Good luck with your rig!

Alan

I am running a HFS 4" with 33" Mud Terrains and for an expedition rig it is very good. I have been driving both on road and off (3+ trails) and I am very happy. You will need to address the steering once the lift is installed. That has been addressed in a number of other threads. Poser installed the lift and there are a number of photo's on a previous thread. Do a quick search under Dressens Regular and it should pop up.

What exactly will is needed for the steering concerns. I've searched and can't seem to find anything.

ya i didn't have any steering issues to accomodate my 4" hfs lift, i didn't see anything in the thread or find any results from searching. the only thing i had to do after the lift was recenter the steering wheel. that all gets taken care of with an alignment. in most cases an alignment isn't even needed. just one of those 'probably a good idea' things... especially when you've got brand new tires that you don't wanna screw up

Has anyone tried the Downey 4inch springs. I had the 4inch old man emu system on my 70 model and at the time (8 years ago) it was the one of the best avaliable. It rode considerably better than the black diamond 4inch lift I bought it with. I'm looking for something for light duty trail use, not like we have an abundance of nice trails in Louisiana. More like swamp and mud than anything. Looking at running 35 inch BFG MT's.

Thanks in advance.

I will come from the other end of the spektrum. Stay away from a SuperLift. It makes it WAY too stiff. As in my 230lb friend can't get the rear bumper to move more than 1" while jumping on it.

Owwww, my kidney's.....

If I can add a penny or two for thought! Downey's offerings seem to be a cost effective alternative, as savings on my mini truck springs added up to about a couple hundred bucks less in cost for a set.
Their explanation is purchasing power. Buy lots at once and pass the savings on to us!...

old man emu of course it probably the best spring out there b ut is $$. The HFS looks pretty good to me. A friend has the MAF on a BJ42 here in UTah and it is very stiff and bouncy. Of course it will take a good beating but I would vote HFS or better yet OME first..

I've been happy so far with the HFS 4" with greasable everything. The only steering issue that I have is the link to the box rubs the shock body when flexed a little. I have been told that its common with any 4" lift.
