If this thread exists, apologies.
Looking for opinions on popular front bumpers out there for the 84-88/89 crowd. I know most make their own but just curious on what’s still being made out there. I personally own an older davez off road bumper that I modified and really like a lot but can’t seem to find anything quite like it for friends. Recently installed an ARB on a buddy’s 87 4Runner and was anything but impressed. What an absolute nightmare of an install. For something that is supposed to be bolt on there were a lot of 4 letter words being tossed around along with sparks lol. I personally think ARB is overpriced, overrated, outdated and a relic that was once the gold standard many decades ago. I tried to convince him to go a different route but we both couldn’t find any other options out there that were worth considering.
Thoughts??? Thanks in advance!!

id say 4x4 labs or addicted.
i agree with you arb sentiment.
coastal offroad offers a kit bumper.

4x4 labs is the first company I think of when it comes to quality. They are local to me and I’ve been there a handful of times in the past for other friends’ rigs. They have great products but at a great cost, their bumper is around $1800 which is a bit more than my buddy was willing to pay. I will check out addicted and coastal, thanks @gnob!

Addicted bumped looks pretty sweet! Anyone have any experience with these guys? I’ve never seen anything from this company before and creepy clown jester thing on the home page has me a little concerned lol

From my collection of bookmarks. It really comes down to your preference. Plate, or tube, or a mix. Hoop/stinger, or not.

Blue lake is also another one I’ve never seen, they have a ton of different options and features with their bumper. Unfortunately there are no pictures to show you what each option look like and the descriptions are kind of confusing when selecting each ad on. If anything I could just call and build it together over the phone. Thanks for the company suggestion @pappy! I appreciate you guys

i don't have direct experience with addicted, but hes been around a long time and has built some really nice rigs. very solid workmanship

I’m running the “All Pro” (Trail Gear) one with fill in plates and I’m happy with it. I had to modify the mounting holes but that was an issue on my end not theirs.

I am also running all-pro front winch bumper with stinger, side handles, w/o filler. I wanted a lighter weight front bumper. MPG daily driver was the build goal so weight savings was a priority. The winch has been nothing but a cosmetic add on, might as well have a rubber ducky on it. It was cheap, sub 750 when either jegs or summit ran a special.

I don't like a full width grill/headlight protection. Especially with a lifted rig. Although I'm over 6 ft tall, doing any wrenching sucks. The center stinger isn't too bad to work around. Leaning on over rails makes things even harder to reach.

I also had to modify some mounting bolts for a proper fit.

The 4x4 labs rear bumper with swing out tire carrier I have is much better built, fit like a glove but was much much more of an investment.

But… but, I like my ARB. It sounds like the ‘86-‘87 might be different enough to make installation a hassle. The ARB bolted on pretty easily on my ‘84.

Lol! Not trying to knock ARB too hard, just had a rough install and needed to vent a little! It is a good looking bumper at the end of the day. We figured out that ARB had merged the 1st and second gen 4Runner part numbers together so the bumped had “extra” tabs and hardware with no mention of this in the instructions. Also, please post up your front bumper pics of the all pro model guys! Thanks everyone
