Hello all.
Scheming on my 1982 4x4.
Truck has original suspension and after 42 years needs some attention.
The dimension I am looking for would be either from rubber stop bumper up to frame stop or top of leaf spring to same frame stop on front axle on a stock truck. Now I am setting about 2-1/8" left and 1-7/8 right. Springs are now convex on front.
After having this truck since new my taste have changed and wish the truck set lower. So wandering what the height would end up if I put 3" lift springs but SUA.
Need to know what stock really was in order to see where I would end up.
Thanks

This is for an 1983, but it may be able to help you. 82 and 83 are the same IIRC.

This is the dimension location that I hope to get.
From either top of leaf springs or from top of rubber stopper/limiter up to frame. Front axle.
If someone has recently installed stock springs and would take this measurement this would allow me to calculate height using 3"lift leaf springs but SUA.

Just occurred to me that if someone has recently put new 3" lift springs on their truck in stock position that I would be able to use that data.
Anyone with new leaf springs installed?

I’m pretty sure if you relocate your leafs under the axle it will throw your caster numbers crazy out of whack. Why not just replace the stock leaf pack with a similar setup plus a leaf or two?

Toast thanks for the reply.
Yes, I would have to shorten/ modify the stand welded on the axle inorder to maintain caster.
Perhaps I should just get a new set of stock springs and leave well enough alone. But haven't given up on lowering it yet.

If I read him correctly, he wants to take lift out of the truck. He wants it lower, which is why he suggested going spring-under-axle. I suspect that will cause the axle to ride on the frame, even with 3" springs.

I have OME springs which are 2.5"-3". The gap from the top of the spring to the frame is 6.75". The thickness of the axle+spring perch is around 6" (hard to measure). That leaves around 3/4" to play with between the axle and frame if the axle is spring under.

Pappy, thanks for the numbers. Your numbers are about an inch more than mine. Limit for me is the oil pan clearance sitting now at about 4.5".
If your springs are new then I think I am chasing a dream.
