Installed my M2 V2 Ram ball mount today. Much nicer setup than my iOttie with CD slot mount, jammed in between the cracks in the dash. iOttie Easy One Touch Wireless 2

I found an Arkon 25mm to 17mm ball adapter meant for Garmin mounts, that fit my iOttie mount perfectly. That adapter and short Ram arm is exactly what I wanted. With this setup my phone is at a much better angle, closer to me, more adjustable, and much more rigid. The old mount couldn't articular enough to angle towards me and was a stretch to reach while driving. ARKON 25mm Ball to 17mm Ball Adapter

The only issue I had was a little plastic tab that supported the back of my HVAC controls that was interfering with the mounting, on the back side of the dash piece of my 2000 LX. A little trimming and everything fits great.

The best place for mounting our cellphones might be the panel on the left which holds the hazard and center lock buttons. I was planning to relocate the two buttons. But these are not self-contained switches like regular rocker switches. Toyota put a circuit board behind the panel! Two small faceplates slide in their channels and trigger the microswitches on the circuit board.

I like it on the left; no worth about having to reach around the phone or have it block a view of anything.

Finally got this installed. I LOVE it. Thanks ben. It’s super clean and fits perfectly View attachment 2348213
Very clean installation!

Just one comment: The blue led in the rocker switch may cause eye irritation when you drive at night. Red color is better.

I was thinking the same thing. As mine is right hand drive (Australia) maybe there is someone with a left hand drive black one who wants to swap, extending the wiring shouldn't be an issue. I don't see a problem with these switches being a little further away and then I can use a M2V2 on my drivers side.

I’d be up for a swap as long as @BenCC can make a lefty version of his mount. And shipping is reasonable.

@BenCC a while ago you mentioned the possibility of making a new overhead "console" for the LX470, since those of us with the LX are dealing with such a small opening to retrofit comms, buttons, etc into. Have you looked into this again or is it too cost prohibitive?

Thanks!

Yes it is the cost. You can source a used one on eBay from $80 to $200. Even cheaper in part out classified.

Making a lefty version might be very easy. It seems the factory main panel is symmetric from left to right.
I am going to do a quick prototype and test.

Thanks for the response! I've looked, but didn't have much luck so I gave up. I'll try again. To be honest it was hard to track down the exact part number but I'm sure I can figure it out if I search more. 👍

Try the part out classified. PM them one by one lol. I got a whole center console in that way.

Is the LX somehow different in the overhead console? My 98 LX had the the "small" 3-button panel for Homelink previously. Beanzerman sent me his replacement overhead console that has the larger flipdown garage door opener. It fit just fine. Figure the Scangauge overhead by Ben should work in that just fine. Not sure what, if anything up there would be different between the LX and LC though.

I have a 98 too... That's what I meant. I need the larger one. Back when he first made his inserts for the small homelink console there was talk of him building that whole console, so I just wanted to check before I started to try to source one.

I'm not sure if this makes sense, haha. From what I can tell either the LX or LC larger one will work... That seems to be your experience?

Ah, ok. I was thinking there was some underpinning that was inherently different. The larger opening LC console clipped right in. If you can find one of those, that might be the easiest route.

Sounds good, I'm in. Let me know if @BenCC can make a mirror one for you and we will organise it. Cost for postage with 2 weeks delivery from Australia to USA is US$20.

Tested. The simply mirrored print works with the panel.

Thanks for doing that @BenCC , much appreciated. @Ayune That looks like it works a treat. I have pulled my switch part out and realised that we would also need to exchange the circuit board cover to ensure that M2V2 (left or right version) will fit. It is easy to remove (4 screws), no problems just a little larger parcel and some better packaging. If you still want to go ahead let me know.

@BenCC you are a badass wizard.

Thanks for what you do for us and all our gadgets we put in these trucks.

Or just simply trim off the plastic sections on the left and right.
