I have only read about 1 person trying to take off the factory metal mount and it shattered their windshield. Then, the replacement windshield came with the Toyota mount already installed.
Good to know! I assumed it could be removed with some heat and persistence, but it sounds like that is not the case.

I third this suggestion, the factory elastic on mine resembles old underwear, no elasticity left! :)
I fourth(?) this suggestion! That space could actually become useful!

Ben's insert works with the fold-down cupholder in place. The cupholder is just useless and takes up space.

I can tell you that the center console does NOT close correctly with the console organizer and the cup holders. But the removal of the cup holders was pretty easy. Just have to drive out the pivot pins. With the cup holders removed, the console now closes perfectly.

Hmmm, conflicting opinions. This is definitely something I'd like to have. I do use the fold-down cupholders on occasion, so don't want to get rid of them.

@BenCC Was there a 3d printed drivers window switch/panel done earlier in this thread? I'm quite sure I remember one. The plastic tab on my switch panel broke off the other day...

Make 24: EZFix of door switch panel

1 Overview of the Final Product

A lot of us have suffered from flimsy door panel caused by broken or deformed tab. The panel is getting harder to source and cost a fortune. The printed EZFix tab can be glued over the broken factory tab. EZFix has overall larger dimension and thicker material.

2. Glue I used:

Loctite Liquid Professional Super Glue 20-Gram Bottle (1365882)

3. Price:

$0 + Shipping ($7.5 to $8.5)

The CAD took me about 1-2 hours. Material cost is minimum. So I will just make it free.
Just PM leaving your shipping address.

This was a long read! Awesome ideas and execution @BenCC - thanks for the hard work.

I have a new request for a variation to Make 7: Do you think a RAM diamond ball base can be mounted in the Rear Cooler Switch Hole Mounting Plate?

Hey @BenCC , I may have missed it within the thread, but are you able to print say, a button or switch cover with translucent material?

What I have in mind would be something like the rear vent window switch, with the ability to light up the open/close ends, instead of just the center as they are from Toyota.

It is doable.

Not fully translucent. But light can shine through..

This is also my need. I cannot tell the open/close status of the rear vent window most of the time in daylight.

You could open a whole new door doing custom switch/button covers...
School things are kind of falling into routine now. 5 out of my 60 students are tested positive so far. Moved most of the lectures online. But in-person labs are still going. My plan:

(1) Finish up the cupholder
(2) Complete simple requested makes including the translucent switches
(3) Restart the front ashtray combination mount
