I am running a set of Battle Born beadlocks 17x9 bootleggers 3.5" back space.
These wheels are stamped 17x9 on the back but if you mount them as a bead lock they are 17x 10.
This is my first set of beadlocks, are all beadlock this way and one inch for the beadlock.

When I talked to Battle Born I was told that you can mount the tire with out the lock ring and that where the 9" wheel is measured.

I'm running them as beadlocks and if you go by where the tire is mounted it a 10" wide wheel.

This is giving the tire side wall a flat profile ( no tire bulge to help protect the wheel)

The lock ring are getting hammered in short order.

If any one has experience with beadlock wheels please chime in.
I really wanted 8" wheels but thought 9s would be all right. now I have 10s with a 3.5 backspacing and my Reg is 6" wider now.:mad:

Umm the bead locks I had, you remove the ring set the tire then screw the bead back on and inflate....bead lock. I didn't know they could be mounted/ dis mounted without removing/ installed the ring...hence bead lock

enox, I think you're looking at it wrong. (or I am)
Its two wheels in one if I'm seeing it correctly.

I see that now, that you pointed it out.

But that lip closer to the ring appears to be smaller than the backside, which would need to be like that for the lock to work, but it does look strange and there should be a buldge on the tire

No expert here but have a soon to be mounted set of Racelines sitting on my floor. Looks to me BB took a 17x9 and modified it to sell as a beadlock wheel. Did they offer it as a 10” or 9”? Seems to me they should be listing it as a 10” so you know what your getting. Who buys bead locks and leaves the ring off?
Racelines offer at 10” and measure the same. No idea if they can mount without but have no intention to do this. If it makes you feel better mine is 4” BS and will stick out more and probably take twice the beating lol. If you want the 9” take the beadlocks off and mount them. Would probably look funny tho.

Jeep does the same thing with their Mopar bead lock wheels. They are 17x7.5 if mounted conventionally using the inner shoulder, but you can also mount them using the bead lock and they are then 17x8.

So its only single sided? Shouldn't there be a spacer ring that goes across the rim and pinches both beads?
That's how MIL tires work.
Seems like one could still slip the bead on the inside and wrack the tire slightly.

.... pause for google search...

I just went and looked this stuff up.
Single sided BL is not DOT approved.
The MIL style with the double locked sidewalls are DOT approved.

Thank you for posting. I bought them brad new $ as 9" wheels, They are advertised as 9" and stamped as 9".
I want the beadlock that's why I payed the extra cash and I totally agree they need to advertise them as 10" wheels if selling them as beadlocks.
Your Racelines look to be made the same way 9" non beadlock or 10" bead locks .
The wheel in post #7 has the same inner bead.

Hutchinson makes a MIL style double locked wheel, like you said there are DOT approved.
I new all of this going in, 99% of the time it's the outer bead the comes off, even most competition racers use the single sided beadlocks.
I actually like the Hutchinson DBL beadlocks, but there a lot heavier and one of the expensive beadlocks.

No, not all beadlocks are manufactured this way. It seems as if Battle Born is doing it the same way as many DIY kits are welded. ...Just weld the mounting ring to the outer surface of the rim.
I run Champion beadlocks and they machine off the original lip before welding the new mounting ring on. There is no option to mount the tire without the bead lock.

I have the Hutchinson's and with the double beadlock I feel confident I won't break the bead unless I destroy the rim. They are heavy as previously stated. I am running 37x12.50 Toyos and one complete wheel weights 134lbs. They are also in my experience difficult to brake the bead on even when disassembling to remove the tires. The next time I have to break them apart I plan to build a special tire stand to do it.

They come in a 17x8.5 with a 4.5 back spacing.

Pics?

It probably would have been best to measure the wheels before you mounted them to verify they were the width you wanted. Then send them back because they are too wide. It's a lot of money spent to just assume they are ok and just mount them up and run them. Although I suspect just one inch less width would make much of any difference in wheel damage. I personally am considering inner air locks because they lock both beads and arent that expensive. They also have good reviews. In your situation though I would just run what u got.

Thinks for your wisdom.
Do you have any experience with Beadlock wheels ?
Battle Born is still calling this wheel a 17x9
Yes, I should have verified the width my point is there stamped 17x9 and invoiced at 17x9
I wanted to know if beadlocks are measure differently and if so let others know. ;)

Yes I run beadlocks on one of my cruisers. Beadlocks are a pain. I hate mounting the tires on them. I was considering inner air locks because I was hoping it would be easier to deal with. Hopefully my last post didn't come across as arrogant or condescending, after rereading it, it kinda comes across that way and I apologize for that.
