So......
I found an '83 SR5 4X4 in the Seattle area. Hasn't been licensed since 1991!.

See photo below...

I am pretty sure I will need the following repaired/replaced:

-Fuel tank (Looked around, have not found source for a new one- HELP?)
-Carb rebuild/replace
-tires-easy
-fluids-same
-brakes
-battery

Anything else I should look out for?

Thanks!

UPDATE:
I'll be picking this up on Friday June 28th if she is as ready as she says she will be.

More pictures to follow!

How the heck were you able to get to the gas tank to determine it's a problem? My first reaction is rescue this truck!

I could not get to it....yet....Can't even get close enough to see the speedometer.
I'm working on rescuing. Owner just needs to get garage cleaned out.

NADA/ KBB say high retail is $2500.

If this is as pristine as I think it is, only registered and driven for 8 years, what would you estimate it's value?

Diamond plate on the side is a concern. The rest is pretty dang clean.

Yea...was just searching for more info on that.....good idea if you like rust!

Even with a bad motor I’d give 2500 for it. Was it running when parked?
Post pics so it can be looked over for our assessment. The value already is...priceless!

I'm willing to bet with a few gallons of fresh fuel plus some fuel system cleaner, and a little ether down the carburetor, you will be able to drive it home. It's a Toyota!

It was a commuter for the late owner who worked at Boeing in the Seattle area.
It was stolen and when he got it back, he parked it in the garage and it never left again.

I was thinking of starting at $500 after explaining how much I'll have to spend to get it up and running; fuel tank repair, carb repair, new tires, fluids, battery etc. I might be willing to go as high as $1500....just waiting for the late owner's daughter to clean the space out enough for me to get a close look at it.
She is the one selling it as her pop passed away recently.
If we agree on a price, I'll load it on a trailer and take it as is and worry about getting it road worthy later.
Like you said, it's a Toyota and priceless in this condition!

Hope you can come to an agreement with the seller, that is definitely a good find! Let us know and post up pics if you end up getting it. Good Luck.

Don't assume and throw unnecessary $ at it.
I recovered my gas tank and it was gross! But not very rusty once I got the varnish and crust out.

Bleed the brakes, yes. Maybe pull the calipers & press them home to free them up if they're sticky. There's a very simple upgrade with later calipers and rotors if you do decide you need new brakes, but wait till you try them first.

I've had good luck with a $60 Chinese carburetor from eBay. But the parts store kits seem to be okay for rebuilding the stock carburetor.

Looks like a great find!

:DI told her that! I am patient though. She has a whole house to clean out as well and that's where she will live.

WOWZA!

Cool find! I'd say clean out the gas tank, rebuild the carb and slap a new fuel filter on it with a new battery and I'd say it'll probably start right up. Speaking from experience, don't bother buying a carb rebuild kit online. I bought one and it didn't include the dust shield for the accelerator pump. The GP Sorenson kit I got from my local AutoZone did and that truck ran like a top. Always carry spare fuel filters for those first couple drives too.

I just hope there's nothing major hiding under that diamond plate though...

Probably remove diamond plate, repair the holes and shoot black bedliner over the same area.

If you do that I really think a gray or silver would look better than black bedliner. It'd match the stripes and give it a two tone look!

Did not consider there were other colors. Yes, good idea!

Yeah you can always paint it with bed liner and then just spray over it with any color you want!
