My 94 FZJ80 idles very low and dies off after warming up. Over the weekend I did the typical replacements oil pump gasket, and FMS, was going to do the dizzy O-ring however after discovering that the oil was coming from the actual inside of the shaft, opted not to. Also replaced all three V Belts as the old ones were old and worn. Everything went back smoothly and she started up just fine however after a couple of minutes being on, the idle started to get very slow and she eventually died. Suspected it to be timing as I might have moved the dizzy somehow, so went on to fix timing with a timing light to just over 3 degrees. Was fine for a few minutes then idle got low again and died. Anyone have any more ideas what it could be?

Yeah TE1 to E1 with paper clip :|
Is the paper clip made in China or U.S.A? :hmm:
I would drive it first and let it cool down and drive it again. Double check for any vacuum leaks.

i would drive it and see what happens, may take a few drive cycles to get that idle under control.
Okay so it turns out that I think my head gasket is blown 😐 have had her parked up and only moving it for street sweeper till I had time to look her over, this morning turned it on n white smoke from the back as well as bad idle. moved her n there was coolant from exhaust ):

What was the weather in your area today when you started this?

What did you smell?
What color was the exhaust?
Did it lessen over time?
How long did you let it run?
Have you checked your oil?
Is the oil have a chocolate milk appearance to it?
There are so many things to check before you says it's a HG.

How many miles on it? Has it ever had the HG replaced?

You bad idle is most likely a vacuum leak.

Did it look like this?

That was a quick assumption! Do a combustion gas test in the coolant. The kits are relatively cheep and you will know for sure. I agree with the above post handful of things to check before spending any money.

Yeah pretty much looked exactly like this and wouldn’t go away it also wasnt that cold maybe about 70 F and very little moisture in the air. Haven’t checked oil yet haven’t had the time to but when I do I will also be doing a combustion gas check. I let her run about 10-15 min before she started stuttering n dying out. It currently only has 147k miles on her, previous owner did mention he changed the radiator like a month or so before I purchased no mention of previous head work.

Yeah, will be doing this when I have the time I hope it’s not but the greenish puddle out of the exhaust was pretty scary lol

The picture I showed was of my truck on a cold start day with high humidity. Definitely not a HG.

If you actually had a green puddle out the tailpipe and you are using green coolant, then you may have a problem.

Did it smell like maple syrup?

The HG on my truck was replaced at 145K, so you're in the range if it's never been done.
