my '73 FJ55 has been parked for most of the past 7 years- had a round trip from southern utah to jackson hole, but other than that, mostly just sitting there. i've replaced the tires (partial dry rot), the plugs, radiator hoses & coolant, air & fuel filters and changed the oil.. aside from changing out fluids in the differentials, tranny, brakes and transfer case, is there anything else i should be on the look out for as i get ready to turn the beast back into an around town daily driver?

Welcome redrock!

I don't think that I can add anything to your list as I am doing that to a '72 to get it back on the road as well.

Pics would be nice.

thanks AZ.. i'll put up some pics as soon as i figure out how to upload them here. the cruiser is factory green & white w/ 31 x 10.50 x 15 goodyear wrangler mudders, holley carb, vacuum advance dizzy, downey header & 2 1/2" ss exhaust. the usual rust rot down below- i've cut it out of the front fenders, but still have those pesky spots below both rear doors. it's originally a california cruiser, but i bought it in sedona in '94, and wheeled it around northern arizona for the next 5 years or so

partially from the 6 1/2 years that i lived in sedona, but also because of the red rocks here in my backyard in southern utah.

thanks for the info on pic posting. should have some pics up soon. by the way, where do you take the beast to be worked on down there in flag?

I just started wrenching on it last week - so far I am going to do the work. I am a neophyte mechanic, but learning a ton from this board, buddies, repair manuals, and lots of errors that I need to undo and do over again correctly.

If you are ever down this way again - let me know.

Looking forward to seeing your rig.

Redrock, is yours the 55 that used to be over by Bloomington Elementary? You're lucky to be livin in St. George. The wheeling is awesome (except this time of year when its a million degrees). Next time I get down there in my pig we ought to go.

yeah, i had it parked right down the street from there for a while. small world, eh? now i've got it about 2 steps from passing inspection (lighten front tint and find a seatbelt for the passenger side). I can't wait to get it back out onto the BLM

Cool ! . I am moving to st george soon (december ) nice to have another 55 around . mine is the artic camo one .
Spent a few days last week looking for houses , and the dreaded job . only to find out the spouse must have a 2 story pad (her only request ) . I love the wheeling up there .
