bump, question, will any diode work? I have a bunch of them in the garage and am wondering if it is necessary to get the specific 4001 from radioshack or not?

Already got mine from you hahaIf anyone needs one, I have roughly 900 of them![]()
what size diode do I need? I am sure radio shack has a few that will work...
Finished the Auto Up Mod tonight and it works like a charm. Very nice and simple modification.
Although by no means necessary, I'd suggest at least trying to fit the diode on the component side of the PCB. Using @NLXTACY's diode - which has long leads - I successfully fed the diode leads through the wicked holes from the component side of the board with some patience and a jewelers screwdriver. Made for a very clean install. I did this without removing the PCB from the assembly.
Note that the cathode (striped) end of the diode is oriented inboard on the PCB per the printed schematic on the component side of the board.
I noticed about a 20% improvement in window speed after cleaning all contacts while doing this mod.

I'm hoping one of you lads might be able to help me. I did the diode mod but couldn't work out how to get to the contractors. Do I need to take it apart further?
