what is the gear ration in the toybox?

Gear ratio in this one is 2.28, iirc.

The cool thing about the TOYBOX however is that you can get a few different gear ratios, 4.7:1 being one of them, and not loose your original low range, as the box can be operated direct, (1:1) or in low.

what series cruiser is the toybox in, poser, rusty_tlc ?

It is in a 40 series, behind a 2F/SM465. That is a 4:1 Orion transfer case on the rear of the 2.28 Toybox, that is riding on a ARB'ed and 5.29 geared chassis with a full float rear axle.

That looks like a lot of material removed compared to the amount removed for a stock t-case. Are the Orions a lot thicker in that area?

Nice setup.

Significantly thicker in that area, along with many others...

Not to beat a dead horse here, BUT removing the gas tank from the 80 series (relocated) Not talking about a marks crawler, what other options open up? can you do a "Tacobox" from Marlin?

Assuming all mods to fit would be made, In your opinion:

What would be the ULTIMATE choice/setup for an 80 series without changing rear axles and stock tranny?

My dream 80 set-up would be stock engine and transmission, ToyBox, Split-case w/ case saver and 4:1 low range...

Case saver on a split-case?

How does that work?

you'll have to translate that for me. I don't know cases and setups all that well (not yet). Research will being soon I hope. Pluse if I can't ask you all to explain that who can I ask.

Change the split case to a Lefty...add a HP 60 and 9" and we're in business. So basically we just need a A44X to ToyBox adapter....someone get crackin on that.

Working on it...

Oh, and the split case does not need a t-case saver. They are bomb proof I believe, short of over greasing your drive shaft(hydrolocking) and blowing out the output.

Question, is the toybox a little light duty for the weight of a 80 series?

Are you talking about the gear reduction part "Toybox", or the whole toybox/minicase as a whole?

Sure! I want to keep my FZJ motor and my A44x transmission, but behind that I want to go to Marlin Crawlers ToyBox (basically the low range section of a mini-truck t-case). Behind that I would like to use a Toyota "Split-Case" transfer case. In that transfer case, I would replace the low range gear with a 4:1 gearset. This would give me 1:1, 2.26:1, 4:1 and 6.26:1 gear selections in the transfer case.

Why run a Lefty case?!? I would rather keep the front driveshaft on the PS.

Well hurry up! :flipoff2: And that's good to know about the split case...

I don't think so... I know guys running them behind V8's and 42's. I highly doubt if that will be the weak link in the chain.

yea but v8's and 42's on a mini is one thing but under 6500+lbs of 80 series is another.

i know Ben from slee runs a marlin box under his buggy that has a 4.7L yota motor and 44's and i dont believe he has broken it. but that machine probably weighs half the 80 weight.

marlin has only a couple of his new 4.7L adapters out in use. time will tell how they hold up to the tundra 4.7 v8. perhaps the marlin box is strong enough but I have serious doubts.

Who do you have making your 4:1 gear set that will not fit in the split case?

The Marks 3:1 is VERY TIGHT, to the point that you need to remove A LOT of case material to make them fit.

Yes, I have installed them.
