I'm installing an ARB compressor along with the lockers in my 75 fj40, what I was wondering is the compressor good for anything else other than the lockeers. Is it big enough to air tires or run tools. Any info would be great thanks :D

thats a good question, i wondered the same thing. i think it would?

I've been doing alot of research on this lately. ARB designed the compressor only to run lockers- it has a mini tank built in.
You can air up tires, I think many people have said it does that- just slow.

Better to have a stronger compressor for that (like a 100% duty cycle, ARB's is less than 30% duty cycle I think).

Not enough power or air reserve to run tools though. You need a seperate air tank (which people put in the front bumper or under the truck) or CO2 tank ideally for tools & airing up tires.

A little plug for me- I'm selling a new Viair compressor in the "for sale section" :)

I'd just run a CO2 tank for tires and for air tools. SO much faster.

why not mount a larger compressor and make a tube style bumper and make that your storage tank?

Well, I was on a run a few weeks ago with a guy who has a 10cfm york on his cruiser... In the time it took him to fill 1 tire with the york, I filled 4 of mine, and one of his with my CO2 tank...

I do have the Powertank valve, so I think that makes a difference.

yup , run the arb for lockers , get 10lb. CO2 from powertank. Set the arb up with a t block that has a quick connect same size as CO2 tank so you can use arb pump if you have to in emergency or tank failure. Also recomend putting a 1/4 npt valve stem in the t-block cause then if you have a arb pump failure and CO2 failure you can use air hose from someone else to pressure up your system and that is good for 1 or 2 arb engagements.

I think it does. The CO2 I have used did not have that valve, and was certainly not any faster than my york.

Your buddy with the york needs to change something. Either he needs a hand throttle or something is very restrictive.

My york fills tires at least as fast as my shop compressor.

The ARB compressor is NOT intended for filling tires or tools, it is toooo slow and has a low duty cycle. (You will burn it up).

I can and have run impact wrenches off my york without a tank, at about 1000 engine rpm. For the cost of the ARB compressor you can easily set up a York that will work much better. I had mine set up for ~$80 at one point, but my setup has since evolved with in cab guages and switches, and a custom air manifold, etc. Total cost is still ~$200. Not including the custom air tank under the rear.

Been using my ARB compressors for YEARS to air up tires, its slow but it does the job, never burned one up. Its not my 1st choice, a Co2 tank is but I set all my ARB comps to have a air hose fitting and they all have an air hose in the back just in case, I don't carry the c02 daily.....

yes they work.

Ditto, I have filled up dozens of tires with the ARB compressor. It is designed to be used as a tire inflator... they even sell it in a easy to carry case with 12V cable connectors. It is not a 100% duty cycle, so you can't run it for ever. I have CO2, but it won't be replacing my ARB comp anytime soon...

PS, I have burned up an ARB compressor... after filling it with sand & water (deep water ;))

CO2 is nice until you run out in the middle of a wheeling weekend. I'm running my ARB off of my CO2, but am strongly considering a 10 CFM York either in place of or in conjunction with the CO2.

Well, I did a CO2 setup as well as a Caddy airpump setup for when I do my ARB (all I need is an ARB third hehehe). It's basically a dual redundant system. The Caddy airpump feeds a pressure tank (reservior) which is then fed into a powertank branded manifold, which feeds the MAC valves (arb solenoids).
The power tank also feeds the manifold, and I can pressurize the tank with the power tank if necessary.

Dual redundant system, just the way I like it.. :D

the older ARB comps had a pretty short duty cycle, think it was 5 or so years ago they upgraded it.

This is an OLDER ARB compressor, 1st generation (~15 years old). Still works too :D

I use an ARB compressor and the auxiliary tank is all my roll cage. i havent tried to fill tires with that yet, but i tried to use the locker and it's possible to run the lockers 50 or 60 times without activating the compressor... just to get another use for the roll cage...
