ARB 40 "Catchers Mask" Bull Bar

I like it. Any thoughts on what tubing would be used for the upper portion? I think something a little larger diameter than the previous one that is sold through MAF would give it a beefier look. No offense intended. The previous version wasn't bad, it's simply a suggestion. Maybe provisions for D rings or shackles as well?

No offense taken. I agree. We were just talking about the tubing diameter off line. That is, using the 4+ capped bumper channel, and then emulating the ARB bull bar tubing scheme on top, as illustrated by the photo posted by j-rankenstein. The tubing would taper inward and tie in at the outer edges of the bumper channel. It appears that the larger diameter tubing in the ARB photo is the same size used in Dave's 4+ bull bar. I like adding shackle mounts too, possibly as an add-on option.

Can we go any further with this thread without additional constructive input from Fuzzy? :hhmm:

Here's an update with beefier top tubing and some supports near the bottom.

Different version, beefier tubing, somewhat like the ARB 60 series tubing configuration.

That one flows alot better

How about one more bar on the top just at hood
Level and width ??

Lee and I both like Dave Gore's Aussie brush guard design and think that a simple bumper with the brush guard integrated would look cool.

Sorry for the crappy PowerPoint CAD drawing, but you get the idea.

To expand on DaveGonz's illustration. We looked at a number of 40 bumpers last weekend at the Lone Star Land Cruiser Roundup. We felt that integrating two of Dave Gore's existing 4+ designs into a single bumper would be easier and less costly to produce than an all new design. The image in the previous post simply combines the main bumper channel of the 4+ deluxe capped winch bumper with the Aussie brush guard. Just an idea.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

How is the picture in Dave's post above any different than the 4+ Plus bumper plus the Aussie brush guard?

x2 - I want the 4+ Plus capped winch bumper, but with shackle mounts. Wonder why they aren't included standard?
Like this but with shackle mounts...

I like that last version better as well.

On the additional bar, did you mean to have it follow the same lines as the front of the hood? IIRC Henry Cubillan added a bar similar to what you're describing at the top of his ARB, the one he had on The Princess. DaveG probably has a photo of it somewhere.

Yup just like princess ... Plan on adding one to mine as soon as my bender mount is built

Like this? More tube, more bends, more cost.

I really like that set up

I'm digging this one. Anybody know the maker?

Looks like a hybrid of the 60 bumper I build. The swept up corners are a nice approach to going wide
without losing tire approach. Large profile bumpers don't lend themselves well to a stock height, small tired
truck however, on a 40 with a good lift and large tires the "catchers mask" look is acceptable if not
attractive

Maybe we won't have to reinvent the wheel after all. Can you reduce your 60 bumper in width and modify to fit a 40?

I agree with Lee, if you could turn your 60 bumper that is in the pic above into a 40 bumper that would be great!

I do :D

That is my 40. We (Cruiser Outfitters when I was just a floor sweeper) built that bumper ~11 years ago though I have changed a few things about it over the years (I did the swept corners in 03?).

(Before the swept wings and with the clanker d-rings)

Honestly my bumper was one of the last we did, at that time I was taking over Cruiser Outfitters and we quickly morphed from a full fab/service shop to primarily a parts retailer with install and fab abilities. I've still got my bender and all the fab tools but I stay too busy with parts sales (my hands stay clean :D) to delve into much fab these days. I'll dig up some more pics, I'd bet Darrel and Andy (whom I worked for at Cruiser Outfitters) built nearly 100 similar bumpers in the 1990's for local customers. I still see them a Cruiser come into the shop with one of their bumpers and instantly recognize the styling cues they used.

Plenty more pics of the bumpers in our older galleries here:

What were you all charging then? What do you think it would cost now for the same set up?

Y'all want the name and # of a new metal fab guy in New Braunfels ? He's done some projects for us and they turned out nice....

Well, I paid for a couple lengths of steel :D

I'm remembering it somewhere in the $550 range but that was year 2000 dollars which would be what, $4500 these days? Unfortunately its not something we are geared up to handle anymore, I love fab work and still have all the tools in hopes to do it more in the future... but for now its all sidelined for our core business.
