Looks like it's time for a road trip Lee , come up to Illinois and I'll build you one that doesn't cover up the damned headlights . Why do they do that ?? The one safari design is acceptable but I'd like something to protect the body/turn signals without causing interference with the other idiot drivers out there ....
Sarge
Be careful with those invitations Sarge. I don't need much encouragement for a road trip.
That Safari Guard bumper in the photo was advertised as fitting the 60/62 series, but it was actually designed for the 60 with round headlights. On a 62 the tubing was smack in the middle of one of the headlights. In hindsight I'm glad I didn't buy one.
Can you get some good pictures of the braces that run to the frame? Did you have to drill holes in the frame? My bull bar has the tabs for these brackets on the bumper. I need to repair the bumper from where a Thomas winch was install. But does the 8274 mount to the top section or the bottom? Wondering what winch would mount stock to my bumper. Not sure a PTO winch will work with as thick as this bumper is. One last question, depending on where the 8274 mounts which winch would one the other way? While the FJ62 I posted a picture of isn't mine I did buy the bumper for my 62. Just wondering what winches will work. I assume they are the same as for the 40 series.
Let me start by saying that I have zero metalworking skills, but that bumper doesn't look that hard to make. There's 3 curved pieces, then 8 notched pieces (5 long, 3 short) and a bent channel bumper.
You're right it's not difficult. I'm guessing an hour on the channel, an hour for tube cutting and bending, hour and a half to two hours notching, fitting, tacking and a half hour final welding. Lastly, a half hour cleaning, deburring and prepping for powder or paint.
These times would be after you familiarize yourself with the assembly.
The first might take an extra hour as you work out the mitre's and measurements.
Five hours start to finish, for a fab shop, is 450.00 to 500.00 in labor. Add 100.00 material and whatever powder or paint costs..... Or knock 350.00 off if you've
got a friend with all the tools and a taste for good beer.

Arb with an 8274,bought this 10 years ago,$600,if you need better pics,I have the support bars to the frame,I had to drill a hole for these,it adds a ton of strength!!
A few pics of the braces and winch mount areas. There were no holes in the frame so drilling two is required. I've never seen anything other than an 8274 mounted up to one, so I'm not sure if anything else would fit.
Thanks I guess would I really looking for is which winch was designed to have it's fairhead in center of the bumper and which winch had the fairhead on top. Guessing my 40 series bumper is set up the same as the ARB and would usethe same winch 8274?. Would just like to know what I could use the FJ62 as well.

Let's say one could get the ARB rebuilt for the $800 range they were new how many would pony up the cash BEFORE to buy one ??? And not a copy a Real ARB ??
As long as I don't have to send it to China to be built like most of the inexpensive Jeep bumpers I'll take a look at this project. Lee is saying he'd like to see it built around a 59" channel which is close to stock width.
Any other opinions on overall width?
