Anybody have any experience with these lights? They have plastic instead of glass, but they come with bulbs and maybe they would work better if you wanted to do HID later on. Just wondering if anyone has any first hand knowledge of them?

Those are the "angel eye" lights that are popular to do a projector swap on.

Personally, I think they make you look like a wanna-be-ricer, and I've never been impressed with poly. While it's not universal, you can make a safe bet that on any car older than 5 years if the headlight is clear it's glass. Poly it seems to me needs to be replaced every few years.

I like the black ANZO lights. They taillights look even nicer. Non ricey. I am tempted to buy the whole set.

the plastic can usually be buffed back to near new condition with some compound.

The problem is that the plastic is treated/hardened to make it last longer. Using a compound basically takes that layer off, making them softer. This means that it won't last as long before you need to fix it again. Plus the plastic will yellow, no compound can fix that. While glass can yellow as well, it's a MUCH slower process (10+ years vs 1-2 years) and it will never be to the same extent as plastic, so it won't really affect light output at all.

Your best bet is to use some 3M film to protect the lens. It will help, but won't solve all the problems.

is there any HID ready headlamp for us .?

Well there are the cheapo HID conversion kits that will let you put HID's into any housing. But an actual projector HID? Not that I'm aware of.

I'm sure for the right price people who have done the conversion already will sell you theirs. ;)

yes... HID projector for 80 series .. IIRC depo have something pretty close .. but needs to be modified .. can't recall ..

Depo's are popular as a start, because they have clear glass lenses. So you can just cut out the plastic and reflector, glue your projectors in place, and be good to go.

Doing a projector swap is like 3-4 times the cost of the Depo's themselves, making it pretty spendy. OTOH just installing Depo's is pretty cheap, and makes a nice difference.

So there are some lights that I have seen that do Not fit right.. Which brand are they.. I have a pair of x5 lights that I want to install in an aftermarket light and not worry about the housing fitment on the truck..

I guess what I'm also wondering is if these Anzo housings would work for HID's w/o cutting and retro fitting projectors?

I was hoping that somebody had tried before and could report back. I have a buddy that works for an auto parts distribution warehouse and he should be able to get me a pair of these pretty cheap. I will probably go ahead and be a test dumby for them and toss in some HID's from Xenon Eyes. If they turn out bad, I'll just sell 'em and start over with Depo's, then add HID projectors. Hoping to avoid that since it will cost about $600 for hi beams only.

Will they work? Yes, with any cheap fleabay HID conversion kit.

Hopefully this doesn't happen to you if you go this route:
2-month-old HID kit caught FIRE, need your help to fight with the seller - NASIOC

If you want HID's, retrofit projectors into the Depo housing. It's not like you save money by purchasing the Anzo housing, so why bother?

If you want to save money, but want more light output, run the H1/H4 Depo setup. It's pretty nice.

If you put HID bulbs in halogen reflector housings your light output will be messed up. They will be bright, but the beam pattern will be all over the place. High beam isn't as big of a deal, but not low beam for sure.

HID's will work -ok- in Halogen projectors. They won't make full use of the increased light output, but at least it won't blind everyone on the road.

A proper retrofit will have projectors that are matched to the HID bulbs.

Those headlights look kind of goofy once they are on the car. The ones that have the side lights all in one unit look much better and generally come with halogen projectors for the low beams.

My truck has that style and the projectors work OK with HID bulbs. The cutoff is intact, but there isn't nearly the same width as a proper retrofit. I've already ordered FXR projectors as getting those in is the next step

Ah, I follow now.

I would think that they do, but can't confirm. Maybe someone else who has one of each can....

Yeah, that's kinda what I was expecting to hear. I was also looking at the fxr projectors, probably just put those in the Depo housings and do it right the first time. Did you get the stage III or IV kit? I personally don't like the look of the headlights with the built in side markers, but I haven't really seen them installed. Do you have a pic you could share?

The headlight mounting holes are the same and the grilles should fit just fine, except the grille mounting
IIRC he grilles would fit, except the mounting screw location are different on a couple of them, I believe.
If you have the LX then the headlight shape is a bit different on the inside (by the grille). So you should plan on getting the LC grille.
Also in general aftermarket lights' fitment is on the poor side. So don't be shocked if they are a little off!
Good luck!!

Here's my Depo's with HID projector conversion that Chef J did for me...low and high beam in the projector and a color matching halogen in the normal high beam spot.... So I have 4 high beam bulbs firing ... Very bright and worth every penny paid.. Plug and play

That's nice looking. I'd be interested in seeing what the cut off looks like on a wall.

What kind of projector did he use?
