Hey, Lou.

That looks fantastic!

Is Chef J still doing it or should I look elsewhere for such a conversion?

I installed the DEPO's a couple of weeks ago, but I am less than thrilled with the lowbeam performance (brightness/depth/spread, etc...)

I put in a 110w H1's in the highbeam position, so I cannot complain about its highbeam performance, but would be willing to shell out the $$$ for the conversion...

Yes ..and he's probably looking to stock his x-mas fund.... I ordered everything he told me to ordered and had it all shipped...a few week later....I have some sick lights
I just installed two 4 inch HID driving lights..the cheap lights from China... My Depo high beams are brighter so tomorrow I'm removing the 4 inch lights and I have a 20 inch surprise taking their place..
You should contact Jay about getting your Depo's converted ... He has this down to a fine art...

NICE!!

Thanks for the tip, Lou!

BTW, I wish I had a 20" surprise... :hillbilly:

Yeah, that's kinda what I was expecting to hear. I was also looking at the fxr projectors, probably just put those in the Depo housings and do it right the first time. Did you get the stage III or IV kit? I personally don't like the look of the headlights with the built in side markers, but I haven't really seen them installed. Do you have a pic you could share?

I have the same ones as this guy

I also have depo housings. They're good because they are glass, but for a retrofit I'd rather swap them into a housing that was designed for a projector. The retrofits into depos never looked quite right to me.

I didn't order a kit, I ordered the projectors and bulbs separately, in fact just yesterday because TRS is having a thanksgiving sale.

I have seen truck shops locally stocking/selling bolt in DOT approved square style HID headlights. Soooo i guess you could order the bezel for the quad square headlight setup from a JDM or AUZ seller and install them for a 100% legal setup. IIRC the lights were sold individually @ around $250 CAD a crack
These square light hid setups are becoming very common around here, example being all the older city busses that utilize the squares have been converted to them.

Here's my Depo's with HID projector conversion that Chef J did for me...low and high beam in the projector and a color matching halogen in the normal high beam spot.... So I have 4 high beam bulbs firing ... Very bright and worth every penny paid.. Plug and play

Right on, that looks great. Pretty sure I'm just gonna go this route now. I really wanted to try something different, but sticking with the proven setup here will probably end up better.

What temp HID's did you go with, and where did you order ur color matched halogen?

I think the Depo's look pretty darn nice....updated but not over the top....

I do like the depos as they are, but not with the projector retrofit. Maybe if the reflector bowls were painted black? Something just seems off.
If the halogen reflectors put out enough light for my taste I would have left them as is.

ChefJ also did the Depo Morimoto HID conversion for me and the difference is like, well, night and day. Same setup as Luke111, so I won't repost, but the cutoff is excellent, I drove the truck across the US in the spring, with some night driving, and have not been flashed in over 4000 miles of driving. This was money well spent, as I am no longer driving ahead of my lights.

more info about this . ?

Could it be one of those "Starr" units, maybe???

I haven't decided if I want to go that route or just keep it simple with the DEPO/projector conversion... :hhmm:

My question have double purpose ..

1. In my 80 I'm running square lamps 4 100/90 bosh bulbs .. and I would like to go proper projector HID route ..

2. In Tencha I have 2 rounds hella projectors with again bosh 100/90 bulbs . and would like to know if there is any round HID projector that I can fit in her .. to go HID route.

If you want to save money, but want more light output, run the H1/H4 Depo setup. It's pretty nice.

That's what I have. They work great and the light output is very nice, especially with the high beams as the H1s come on in addition to the H4 dual filament. They'll also e-code, which will pass inspections in BC :)

If you put HID bulbs in halogen reflector housings your light output will be messed up. They will be bright, but the beam pattern will be all over the place. High beam isn't as big of a deal, but not low beam for sure.

HID's will work -ok- in Halogen projectors. They won't make full use of the increased light output, but at least it won't blind everyone on the road.

A proper retrofit will have projectors that are matched to the HID bulbs.

Exactly. Please don't just jam HID bulbs and ballasts into reflector housings! :meh:

This is the site/products that I was wondering about.

Knock yourself out

I am not vouching for their quality or anything like that, but was wondering if those were the units that the poster above me was referring to.

But I guess if you've got money to burn...

I was ready for some .. but never that much .. it looks like I would like to create something on my own ..
