I’m sorry that you’re dealing with the surging idle. It’s an absolute pain to track and diagnose. It “could” be a gummed up idle air control valve. Did you pull it?

When I pulled the one on my wife’s truck for inspection, it was gummed up something terrible. The new unit sorted it out.

Installed a second throttle body after double-triple checking the resistances across the various connectors. Everything checked out. Installed it and the same symptoms, immediate revving to 4k rpm. This condition did not exist before I began working on the engine.

I checked the MAF and got a resistance reading of 1364 @ 83F, across the E2 and THA terminals. This seems to fall between the given ranges in the FSM on page EG-153, 2-3k @ 68F and 0.9-1.3k @ 104F.

Could it be the MAF? I don't know. Could use some guidance on this.

Shucks. It sure could be. Did the previous shop/ owner mess with the screws on the MAF? If they did, the solders are likely broken. They can be re-soldered. I’ve never done it, but it is doable.

You might be on to something with the MAF.

Did the voltage check on the MAF and the voltage fluctuated but only by a couple of volts, from ca. 0.6 to > 2. Battery had low voltage and so I'm not sure this test is conclusive positive or negative.
Is the battery holding a charge or does it need to be jumped? The battery might be an issue, but it wouldn’t likely be responsible for the surging.

This is a weird on for sure.

I’m going to tag @mingles as he might have some insight.
 
Is it possible that timing is set too high?
 
Brake stuff. What I want to clean up with the removal of the ABS is the haphazard bending of lines and the t-junction just floating in space.

The front line off the MC routes down to the T-junction.

The two front lines will then connect to the T-junction; only one here, the passenger side line. I'll need to make the driver side line and it will drop almost straight down.

Battery is not holding a charge and I have to jump it off each time.
 
You'll probably kick me for suggesting something so simple... but with the tb being off a couple of times recently, is there any chance that the throttle cable is out of adjustment? That sure would be a super simple thing... don't ask me how I came to ask that question... lol.

Always something simple.

@cruiserinsanity noticed a gap between this stop screw. It's somewhat buried under the ICS thus not easy to see. Throttle and kickdown cables were way too tight. Readjustment brought idle back down to normal.

Brake lines bent up and hooked up to MC with front lines completed. I need to run a long line along the frame rail for the rear brakes, plus add in one short line from frame to rear soft line using a 90 fitting. I also need to cut out and clean up old rotten lines.

That’s looking great, Jim. Almost there!
 
ABS and LSPV deletion complete including the running of new lines. I reused this 90 elbow to redirect the rear brake line to the secondary line that connects to the soft line at the axle housing. I trimmed the edge of the elbow mount so that I could bolt it where the sway bar bracket mounts on the frame.

Almost ready for the road. Short brake test felt good. 1FZ is running well but idle is 1200. Timing is too far advanced and I think this is contributing to the high idle. Timing check showed timing at 17 degrees, one tooth to far advanced. Once I reset the distributor I expect the idle to come down to normal.

Alternator died but I have an extra and new brush set so that will go in.
