Since I've owned it my cruiser has never stopped particularly well. I hear this is a common trait, but I'm positive this can be improved. Back in 2013 money was tight but I needed brakes, so I went with new Wagner pads and rotors all the way around. While I suspect has been and still is air in the system, I think these bargain brakes have something to do with it as well. Obviously I'll be correctly bleeding the system after the brake work is done. Normally I'm a 100% OEM guy, but I've been reading up on here for the past four hours and it sounds like there may be better options for a bit cheaper. The Power Stop kits are the ones that caught my eye, and from what I've read on here everyone who has them seems to like them. It looks like they make two kits with the difference being the included pads. There's the Evolution kit at $311 and the Extreme kit at $345, the latter of which Power Stop recommends for lifted vehicles with larger tires. This seems like a good deal to me, considering OEM is north of $600.

I'm looking for feedback from people who have, have had, or have driven an 80 equipped with one of these kits :)

I went through and replaced all hoses, put 100 series front pad's from Rock auto, I flushed and bleed the system, using a pressure bleeder, the pad's where $5.00 , I used my home made pressure bleeder which holds half a gallon of brake fluid and you can do a through flush , I run 35's and a Cummins 6bt and I stop very well, I would get those rotors and go with the 100 front pads

I installed OEM rotors (not cheap) and EBC green pads (100 series up front and 80 series in the rear). I also deleted my LSPV and installed a union. I am very happy with the stopping performance of the Cruiser. The LSPV deletion made the biggest difference.

Yes, I have used the power stop set. I got the mid grade pads and hot 52K miles on the fronts.

I threw in some cheap pads from oreiO'Re and they SUCK. I'm going back to power stop.

My 1997 has PowerStop kit #K1155-36 installed from previous owner. It has the drilled / slotted rotors front and rear.

Power Stop K1155-36

It does just fine, even with a 3" OME lift, 285s and towing a Crestliner Phantom 186 SSTII. I towed the same boat with a 2007 Suburban, and a 1995 Tahoe and the Land Cruiser does just as good or better. My truck still has original brake lines and hoses.:bang:

The rear proportioning valve is still connected and not adjusted correctly after the lift. I plan on modifying or eliminating it for more rear brake "power".

i've used Powerstop on both my 80 and the wife's GS400. they've worked great on both.

Your Land Cruiser tows better than a 2007 Suburban?

Sorry, Clarification - braking only is similar to the 2007 suburban and better than the 2005 Tahoe. The 2007 Suburban accelerated and passed much better than both Land Cruiser and Tahoe. The Tahoe pretty much sucked in all aspects with the OEM brakes and the 350 TBI.

I tow the boat 20-30 times a year and got to use the land cruiser on about 10 late this summer.

Thanks for the replies guys, I’ll be ordering soon :)

I bought my Power Stop from Summit Racing because the free shipping over $100 order made it worthwhile.

I have drilled & slotted PS in front and EBC rears both with EBC pads and Slee lines - large improvement..... I did the PS full kit on my old 80 and it was about the same and cheaper....

worth upgrading...

Put them on front and back of the UTE. stops on a dime. Only thing bad about them is how bad they make my other 80 brakes feel.

Order placed!

Thanks for the tip, this saved me some money. Rock Auto was $346 + $41 for shipping, Summit was $362 shipped :)

check autoanything as well - their free shipping and a discount sealed the deal for me....

I did check with them but I didn't see the extreme kit (K1155-36).

I installed Powerstop K1154 "Z23 Evolution Sport Brake" kit on the front a couple of weeks ago.
That kit has slotted / drilled rotors and carbon fiber / ceramic pads, but not the "Z36 Heavy Duty Truck & Tow" ones.
Except for the marketing lingo, I can't identify an actual difference between Z23 & Z36?
It was to solve a long term warped disc pulsing brake problem.
Been running EBC Green Stuff 100 series pads on it.

Subjective brake feel is quite good.
Smooth, progressive, with good braking authority, but not grabby.

I do have a quality complaint about the Powerstop pads.
The squealers would have started making disc contact at about 2/3 pad thickness remaining.
Far too early. That's just sloppy manufacturing.
I ground them down with a dremel to just over the 1mm FSM minimum pad thickness spec.
One of them broke off at the bend due to over-hardened / stressed steel & vibration. (was being gentle with the Dremel)

Time will tell, but I think these are less abrasive on the discs than EBC Green Stuff, which are semi-metallic.
You can see copper threads in them.
Those work well, but do slowly erode / consume the discs.
Not aggressively, but the surface does get grooved over time, so replacing pads only becomes an iffy proposition.

Some time back folks here were recommending putting 100 series pads on the 80, so I did that.
Now, the consensus has changed back to using 80 pads. I agree. Not a significant benefit, not worth the small trouble.
