resurrecting this old thread.......

ok, my antenna finally is giving up....if I help it go down, it will go back up but it's inconsistent and def not like it was before.....tried to clean and lube it but no real joy....I just ordered the camry sedan p/n CDan listed in the above answer to my question when it acted up previously, and now my question is....Does this replace as the newer mast's do ie: just feed in the cable from the top or is it a more difficult procedure?
have not received the part yet so I don't even know what it consists of.......
thanks

If you can hear the motor working then there is likely a small kink in the mast that is creating too much resistance to allow it to function smoothly. With a new mast at the ready, remove the lock nut and rubber grommet from the top if the fender. Have some one push the UP button until the old mast comes all the way out (you may have to help it). Your new mast kit may or may not include the metal sleeve that the mast lies in so you may need to reuse the old one. Unscrew the white cord from the bottom of the mast. Place metal sleeve around new mast and screw the white cord into the base of the mast. Assemble in reverse.

The antenna needs to be removed from the fender and disassembled in order to replace the drum and cable. It is not a simple task. The mast is additional to the drum and cable.

ok, seems as if I ordered just the drum and cable, is there a mast p/n that can be used with this assembly? if I have to take it out I want it all new going back in, and thanks

Mast-only is 86336-60040. The cable must be intact as this attaches to the end of it.

ok, one more question, will this mast attach to the camry drum/cable -86327-22211, that I just ordered? and thanks again

Yes it will.

At 20 years almost to the month my 97 antenna finally broke. Motor runs so I'm off to find a 86337-60080. Thanks again ih8mud members and forum.

Does anyone have the pictures associated with the original write-up from this thread? Trying to knock out this repair and would live to see the original post in its original glory.

Resurrecting this thread to add my findings on replacement antenna masts... Having a 1996 LX, I have the fully automatic version that allows you to adjust the height manually as well. That antenna (part number 86300-60080), uses the replacement mast 86337-60080. There are lots of online sellers stating that their mast work with the LX (and 1997 LC's), but they DO NOT work... They are about 1mm too thick. The only ones that seem to work are the original ones from Toyota (about $60-$70) and the ones from www.theantennasource.com that are identical and are about $40. Here are the differences between the cheap ones and the one that actually fits:

luv to find someone thats fitted a replacement flexible (stubby?) aetenna. I've tried a generic universal one but just doesn't fit or seal properly in the body hole

Anyone considering buying part number 86337-60080 on Ebay, please see @WannaCruise post above. I just bought on Ebay and had the same problem. Ebay antennas are too large and don't fit.
