wow, that brake booster setup is Sweet! ,

Another Case of chevy 1/2 ton axles not belonging on a cruiser!

Its not worth much now, but i bet it will be nice once you are done!

That loop is a stabilizer or anti-sway bar. It is not nor has it ever been connected to this rig. It just goes from U-Bolt plate to U bolt plate. :meh:

holy ****box batman!

what is with the loop of tubing attached to the upper ubolt plates? is that just a mounting point for the steering stabilizer? why?

and is that some rebar reinforcement under the rear axle, I see?

I found a set of Ski's in it while cleaning the trash out.

How does one loose a set of ski's in an FJ40? I can understand a 12mm wrench, but a set of ski's? I think they are water ski's since they have a fin on the bottom.

Those are water skis... snow skis are long and narrow.

Do you mean where they cut the frame from the donor truck with the steering box still atached and then welded the section of the donor frame and steering box to the FJ40 frame?

Wow... just... wow...

Very unique rear swing out thingy in the rear. It has the brackets so a Blitz type fuel can can be mounted on the outer portions of the middle. If this is a tire carrier, I have no idea how to mount the tire.

The latch mechanism looks like a chevy hood latch post.

I don't know what shape that tailgate is in but it at least it has the hinges. The latches can be replace with stock Toyota parts without to much trouble.

So when you cut off all that old GM stuff what will this old cruiser weight about half of what it weighted when unloaded off the trailer:hhmm:

Good question on the weight.

My long term plan is to remove all the non toyota stuff and install the axles from my 1974 and either the powertrain from my FJ40.5. or one from a 1971 FJ40. It will be a rolling, moving chassis.

It will then become just one of the FJ's here while I gather parts and try to put it back together using stock items. I do not know enough about them to "restore it" properly. This is the first 64-65 FJ 40 I have been this close to.

Wow....

I had that same swing out tire mount on mine when I bought it. It's supposed to have a piece that comes out from the center vertical bar that holds the spare. It seemed to work fine, but it's in storage now...that's the only other one I've ever seen like that.

I think the saddest part, and most difficult to repair, is the giant hole in the middle of the dash. The only solution I have seen is obtaining a patch piece or entire center section of the dash to replace it.

I know if one '65 tub here locally that may get parted out. I think it also has a hole in the middle of the dash.:frown:

Let me know if they part it our. I could probably use a patch piece from either side of the hole to fix the hole.

Will do. There's a few small parts I want also.

Dan I got a earlier cowl that I think has the piece you need. I take a picture and let you see if you can use it. I think the only extra hole was for the after market ashtray. This cowl dates back before Toyota installed an ashtray in the FJ40. If you need help with this just post up in the 25 forum lots of willing help over there.

Thanks.

That thing is no use to you Man,
Find a big hill and let her role down , make sure you point her toward Canada,
Maybe in few months It will find me.
I hope this is not what cruiser mandness does to cruiserheads.

Great pics and very educationally wild thread.
