Here's a picture of the CarQuest brand axle from Advance Auto.
This axle has the distinctive differential spline tip like I have seen on a Cardone/NAPA example in another thread. This does not look like the ID axle.
The outer area is not painted/plated or treated to prevent rust.
I suspect this axle is made to hit a specific price point.

Unfortunately if you read the warranty information on any of them, I believe none say that they cover off-road usage or usage with oversized tires.
I dont have time to search, but I'm fairly certain Carl from nitro once stated they were for stock, street driven trucks and weren't as strong as the stock toyota axles. I may be wrong.
NAPA Maxdrive HD warranty:
"COVERAGE and DURATION CARDONE Industries warrants that it will provide a free replacement for any NAPA New Drive Axle which fails or proves defective during normal use on the vehicle on which it was originally installed. This warranty does not apply to a NAPA New Drive Axle which has been altered, misused, damaged, installed improperly, installed on a vehicle for which it was not designed, installed on a racing or high performance vehicle. This warranty is extended only to the owner of the vehicle on which the NAPA New Drive Axle unit is installed, for as long as that person owns the vehicle, and is not transferable."
which is the type of seller some would avoid, if he cheaped out on parts what else did he cheap on... pass! lol
The warranties are more of a calculated risk by the finance and marketing team than any sort of indication of quality.
The lowest quality part might have the best warranty. It's often used as a tool to get sales in the hopes that they'll get more additional sales than additional warranty exchanges.

On the topic of axles- not specifically cruiser related but a friend of mine got a duralast gold axle for his nissan quest, and literally 2 years almost to the day said he needs to warranty it because it is clicking.

Exactly. But most would not know as many of the axles are not marked in such a way as to discern their make other than the Toyota Yellow Band. I made this mistake and am paying for it (PO had 4WP do install, and well.... just go look at my build thread)
Ya'll hating on the Cardone CVs like you've actually broken one. I've been daily driving a pair of these for a while now. Lifted, big tires, no diff drop, and even went wheeling once on them.
Worst case, these suddenly start giving me issues, I'm out about $125 bucks and a few hours of my time. I'd end up getting some OEM CVs, and using the warrantied units as spares. I'm personally OK with eating this amount of money/time to give it a shot.
I'd be curious how many people who are diehard OEM CV fans ever leave the pavement.

Not everyone is bagging on them. OEM have their issues too so don't worry. Out of what I have been reading on the "big box store" axles, the Cardone's seem to be the best. Think most of us would like a bit higher quality axle that is between the Cardone price-point and the OEM price-point that are NEW.
Part of it too is that many people associate "big box store" with "reman'd" axles which tend to fail quicker and thus get a bad name.
And for some, that "few hours time" that you speak of is more valuable than the money spent. Thus they would rather have something in there that has a higher potential of lasting longer to alleviate the "time" expenditure.
agreed, ask for receipts and if its not done at lexus toyota that's one sign, if they did at indy or personally with oem parts they would likely save the receipt and proudly say only OEM parts used for my baby... if reluctant, another sign.
