"Another" 1971 Pig Build Thread!

Would love to know how you like the cover as you use it over next few weeks/months - looks to be a good deal!

It should be arriving next week. The good news is that we're mostly beyond all the pollen and drippy gooey stuff off the trees. But just the rain is bad enough to rinse the trees off and dirty the wagon up again.

No. 1, I'm thrilled I didn't have to drop $200 - $300 on a car cover. No. 2, having the cover on will enable me to continue removing all the doors and windows as I continue to send stuff off for blasting, and I can still keep it parked outside with no real danger of moisture damage. I don't even have it yet, and I'm thrilled.

I picked up a vintage set of auto body hammers and dollies on eBay yesterday. I'm going to use these primarily to address the body damage the Pig experienced when the tree in my back yard fell on it last year. I've been watching YouTube videos to get a handle on the methods employed with these things, having never used them before. If I find that I'm good at it, I may use it to take out the crescent shaped dent on the rear fender of my Tacoma that I also put in it last year. That was embarrassing. I was installing the hoops for my Can Back top when one of the hoops got away from me while I was standing in the bed of the truck. SCRRRAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPEEEEE. Dang, I was pissed. Anyway, time to try out another tool to see if I can do it myself. Hope to post pics soon.

Dropped off our queen size bed from the future nursery at the mother-in-law's over Easter weekend so that we will have room to start on the painting and woodwork. Unexpectedly, I got invited to swing by Stevie's, who sold me the Pig and the FJ40. He was finally able to sort out some property he had been looking at and is "go" for an impending move. With that, he's now in "clean out" mode, getting rid of anything he doesn't want to carry with him. He gave me two boxes worth of FJ40 parts, mostly air cleaners, carburetors, water pumps, dizzys and other misc engine stuff. I'm going to start going through it over the next few days, and what I can't use for myself I'll list. It won't be much, but I'm sure someone could use a little this or that.

Wouldn't call it much in terms of progress, but while away I did manage to repaint my Toyota fender emblems since they've been rechromed. If the rest of my cruiser falls apart around me, at least I can say I have the most badass emblems in town.

I can see the benefits, especially when lacking a/c. If I could find the original "chex" pattern of the vinyl in a cloth version, I would be cooking with Crisco. That would be an awesome match. I'm incredibly happy to have a seat that now has all the original elements, which will make replication for an upholsterer that much easier. I've heard there are some decent upholstery shops here in ATL - so I'll look into what others have used. K9Crazy (also on MUD) had hers done here and they looked fantastic. May just go with her company.

Good luck getting the rockslides cleared out. I understand that's a regular issue out your way - seems like driving is similar to a game of chance! Be careful out there.
