No, I’m driving the wife’s F350. I’ll have the brakes done on the gray 62 soon enough.

Little more done today. Final clean of the deck and head. Little fun fact: not only the bottom of the block is stamped with the bearing size. The top is as well, also an easy way to tell if it's ever been decked.

Final wipe down with alcohol and the genuine head gasket goes on.

Starting to look like an engine again.

26 shiny new head bolts

20200827_161817.jpg

The threads and bottom of the head of the bolt are generously coated in oil. I like to run them all down finger tight to make sure the threads are clean and then number them with a silver sharper to make torquing them in sequence idiot proof. Then they can be torqued in four steps to 90 ftlbs. Book says 83 but i like to go just a hair over.

And done

Phenomenal, Roma.

I took the rocker assembly apart just to give it a thorough clean and lube and check for any wear on the rocker shaft or arm faces. The shaft had just the slightest amount of wear and the arm faces were practically perfect. At nearly 300k miles this engine was well cared for throughout it's life. I didnt get any photos because I was gloved up and hands were covered in assembly lube.

Valves adjusted.

New gasket from the overhaul gasket set fitted.

And a nice fuzzy photo of the valve cover installed. Of course new valve cover grommets and replated hardware.

Injectors were up next.

New seals and seats

Torqued down with shiny hardware

20200828_142737.jpg

Spill pipe installed and torqued with new copper washers and refinished hardware. These washers were in the gasket set so sorry no individual part numbers.

New upper and lower housings, thermostat, hose, and hardware.

Notice the top right bolt is different with a bigger flat washer, it will hold the vacuum and coolant piping assembly.

New upper and lower gaskets were on the set.

I don't have a water pump to install or clamps for the hose from the pump to the thermostat housing but I do have the hose and water pump hardware and gasket.

Also unfortunately this guy is toast as well and I can't seem to find a good toyota part number. The part number I see for this part in the catalog yields the wrong part (which I do have, and it fits in the water pump) it's just too short for this spot. On my other engine I believe I found a brass barb at a hardware store since the threads are a common pipe thread.

I went ahead and installed the fuel filter housing although tomorrow I still need to pick up 8 washers for the hoses for it to be buttoned up.

Not sure what this bracket was for but it was in this location when Galen sent the engine. Possibly a.c. hose support.

I made the mistake on my engine of disassembling this shutter and it was not worth the effort. There is a shaft seal and a handful of o-rings that I don't believe can be sourced for it so I just cleaned this one up a bit with brake cleaner.

I think I posted earlier but the injectors were rebuilt with new denso nozzles.

Also does anyone have a good part number for this small fuel hose? I think it's 90464-00446 but doesn't seem to be available which can't be right. My replacement is a gates hose that has the proper i.d. but the o.d. is smaller so the factory clamps can't be used.

Roma, that is amazing progress.

Was going through Galen's parts this morning and noticed I had sourced some toyota lower thermostat housing bolts.

I had installed some nice new ones from my personal stash of 10mm ones but pulled them back out in favor of the genuine toyota ones.

New crush washers for the fuel lines.

For some reason toyota installs the bleed nipple on the fuel inlet side which doesn't make much sense to me. I installed this one on the outlet side so the fuel filter doesn't need to be removed and filled with diesel for a bleed procedure.

Unfortunately the hose from the filter housing to the pump is no longer available new.

Couldn't remember where thisgut went exactly so had to look back in my reference photos.

Injection lines I cleaned with brake cleaner and compressed air and then wd40 in both directions prior to final install so hopefully nothing from the cad plating is left in the lines to clog the injector lines.
