Builds An HJ61 followed me home to Texas

Roma delivered the motor to Fastenal, and it’s somewhere between Texas and Alabama. I started moving trucks around to make room to put the old girl back in the shop.

Unfortunately, I picked a wet, muddy, rainy day to do it. What a sloppy mess.

Oh man, it's getting close. Fastenal says the motor arrives tomorrow. I got the water pump and clutch in from Cruiser Outfitters today. Need to clean up the exhaust manifold and tap for the EGT probe I bought. Ordered an Isspro pyro, probe, and lead wires. @davegonz, can I borrow your 1/4" NPT tap?

My Eastwood silver high temp paint arrived...just in the nick of time. I figured I’d give the exhaust manifold a coat of good stuff to make it worthy of @roma042987’s rebuild quality.

Sometime before 2021; I’m working all weekend so no big rush.

Australian shepherd in the background?

I got the VHT cast iron colored high temp paint for the exhaust manifold on my 1HZ. Will be interesting to compare notes down the line on how the Eastwood / VHT stuff performs. I've had very good experiences w Eastwood products in the past, and have used the VHT epoxy (black) for all sorts of projects around the house (e.g. repainting our metal outdoor furniture) and really like it, so figured I'd give their high temp paint a go.

@Nostradamus, yup, that’s Nate. He’s a red merle Aussie. He’s usually hanging around the cruiser barn, inches from my side. He’s pretty Velcro-y.

Violet the corgi is the short one.

They are good dogs. Here we are in the kei truck, feeding the horses.

This was Sterling, the blue merle Aussie that my wife had when we first got together. As you can see, she was obsessed with frisbees. She had the typical Aussie work drive; She would literally return a frisbee until she couldn’t walk anymore. I had to carry her home slung over my shoulder on more than one occasion. Nate doesn’t have any of that drive at ALL. He is most likely some other dog accidentally wrapped into an Australian Shepherd body.

I’ll dig up that pic. It’s awesome.

Engine block over him like the sword of Damocles, and Nate couldn’t care in the least.

Asleep beside the big fan. Pretty standard.

That's so true about the work drive. Totally foreign concept to our other three dogs (two shelties, and an aussie/collie mix) even though they are supposedly "working dogs" - clearly they didn't get the memo.

Jax doesn't dig frisbees, but he's neurotic about tennis balls. We literally have to keep them out of sight otherwise, he'll stare at them and whine if they are out of his reach. He runs so hard chasing the ball that he tears his toenails off, gets blisters on his pads, breaks his toes. He only has one speed - as fast as he can run, and then slams on the brakes when he gets to the ball. In fact, had to have part of one of his toes amputated due to so much damage. Thing is, if he doesn't get to chase the ball for 10 min or so every day, he's a pain in the ass. Just follows me around the house whining. 10 min of exercise and he's totally chill the rest of the day. That's his job and if he doesn't do it, he's a pill.

Best dog I've ever had, and we've had a bunch. Never need a leash, take him with me everywhere, and if he's not allowed in to a store or whatever, he sleeps in the truck. Back when I was working in an office in downtown SEA, I brought him to work every day, and he hung out in my cube. Threw the ball at lunch time rain or shine. Now I work remotely - thankfully.

@Unoman came by the shop today and we use the kei truck to pull the 61 into the shop to get ready for the heart transplant. Bug, his four month old yellow lab rode shotgun in the back of the kei truck. 660cc of Subaru power was able to haul the HJ61 carcass up and in place without even blinking an eye. That thing is a damn good little truck.
