So what’s the plan with the engine is it going to be rebuilt to factory specs or is getting balanced, coated alifin pistons, upgraded turbo etc

Been working on vapor honing a little every evening this past week and that part is all done.

Pretty cool this sticker didn't get blasted off.

Is that one mine or yours? Good lord, that is impressive!

Got the oil pan degreased and then pressure washed which ended up blowing a bit of paint off it. I scuffed it with a scotch brite pad, cleaned it up with brake cleaner then acetone and two coats of chassis saver. I started painting it hanging up like that but it moved around too much from the brush so I ended up laying it on some plywood then hung it back up to dry. I learned my lesson painting my pan laying flat...it pooled a bit and bubbled where it pooled up.

Nothing too disturbing with the bearing for the mileage in my opinion.

On cylinder 3 one of the rod cap nuts was rough coming off and the threads are galled slightly. I'll have to do something here before it goes back together.

Also on cylinder 3 and only that one we have the notorious 12ht piston land wear.

Lastly inspecting the bearings I noticed they all have the number 1 stamped on them. My understanding was 1 was for 1mm oversized. I'll have to get the manual out tomorrow and double check and I can certainly mic the crank journal. The marking shows it's a taiho bearing if memory serves right which does provide bearings for toyota and the aftermarket so that doesn't help much. I was pretty certain standard size bearings had STD marked on them....anyway I'll investigate tomorrow.

Good news all the way around. Interesting on the ‘1’ marking.

I'll say. I can't get over the vapor hone pieces. I'm packing a second box of aluminum parts to send you....

First box of parts is packed. Nate helped.

Crank is out and I got the piston oil squirters pulled and cleaned along with all the main caps and bolts. Bearings all look really good considering the mileage. Aside from that piston I'd say this engine would have been good for another 300k just with new seals. I also did a little digging and that bearing number on the rods is normal. Factory sizes are 1 and 2. This engine has 1 for the rods and 2 for all the mains.

Awesome news. You’re the man.

The crank bearing size is usually stamped on the oil pan flange surface on the block. I forget if it is on the RMS side. See pic. It shows bearing size for each piston as I recall. Pic is off a 2H but should be same.

I know :) Honda does it the same way which is what I did my first few builds on. That works unless someone has been in it before and with a 30 year old rig there is no telling.
