I checked out the wiring diagram at work today and had a few ideas.
Clamped my meter back in place and got the same 28-30 ohms.
Shook the rig and I got an intermittent short, managed to get it to stay shorted right at 6 ohms. I disconnected the rear harness section at the firewall and the short went away, we'll this was getting easy.
Knowing what I know about my 40 and what goes were circuit wise, I slid under the passenger side and found a bullet connector that was broken, 4wd switch circuit on the diagram, it has a faint sign of arcing on the tip of the bare connector. A slight tap against the t case and it confirmed what I was suspecting, found my culprit.
Tossed in a new fuse from the 20 amp box in center console and took a test drive.
