I keep up on the diesel fuel additives to prevent the fuel from gelling. Last winter I ran it at -25ish, full throttle I couldn't get over 45 mph. It was struggling, that's when I remembered I hadn't treated the fuel in a while. A quick stop at the diesel pumps and a bit of Power Kleen and it was back alive.

Currently -24

As a former diesel tech I’ve dealt with a lot of gelled fuel. I’m glad you are on top of it and know the way around if need be.

Last week I treated the fuel in my truck, I rarely drive jt and it still has 50+ gallons of fuel from probably July.

It’s currently 3 degrees in southern Missouri where I am.. I am guessing tomorrow I have 5-10 trucks show up gelled up.

a storm rolled through here this week burying my patiently waiting 62(needs and engine rebuild). so i’m driving my little barn fire 40 as my daily. block heater and cardboard worked for me (also a new battery helps a ton). my heater keeps my window clear but my feet are sure cold. 🥶 i need some floor insulation!! good luck getting yours going again

i feel your pain about cold honey. it feels like i’m turning 37s with no power assist. man things get stiff when it’s this cold.

Yeah driving a 40 in those temps sounds like an adventure.

LOL

that’s really good to know. i know diesel gels if i forget to treat it. i also have a webasto preheated to warm the engine before starting it. funny living in canada all my life i’ve never heard of gasoline gelling. i run snowmobiles and have never had an issue. maybe it’s because we get winter fuel with winter additives. i should try a fuel treatment to see if it makes a difference. my engine does feel a little sluggish but that could also be that everything is stuff and making it work harder

Gasoline doesn't gel, but it does doesn't reliably ignite at certain temps.

I used to think it was a carb thing, but I've seen it with injection as well.

Wow. It’s crazy cold up there. You get problems south people didn’t even know were problems. What do you actually do to keep your vehicles running? Just go with really light oil weights? At what temp does coolant become slush?
Same as @120mm stated above, my Dodge has a full grill cover on it, and it stays plugged in every night. Last time I dipped my coolant I think it was good down to -40.

Even after some fuel treatment Thursday night and a fresh tank of fuel (that's supposed to be good to -30) my truck ran like crap. Couldn't get it up to speed with the hammer down, 35 mph in 5th, 45 in 6th @-24 this morning.

Swapped it for my wifes Tahoe and away I went to ski all day.

sounds pretty cold to be skiing. good on you!!

that being said if i wasn’t working today i’d probably have gone for a bike ride!

25F "warmer" up at the pass.

1F.

At those temps, I would be running 50/50 half #1 fuel and half winter blend from the pump!! That is cold!! Even for Minnesota standards. LOL.

At these temps the Redbreast bottle will be empty soon.

$23 and some change at the dealer in Missoula, the parts guy thought it was just one lamp.

I already have it installed, but for $23 for spare headlights, we'll I'll toss one on the shelf.

Cell phone pics probably don't do it any justice.
