OK, I just did my first rust patch on my 80 on Saturday, and I notice you have some really coolio clamps to hold the new metal pieces in place and give you a 1/8th inch spacing. Do you have a link on where to get/fabricate these?

I snagged them up from Harbor Freight, I'll try to post a link up in a few. Eastwood carries some also, maybe a little better quality than anything from HF. The best thing I have learned so far is to back up every weld with a piece of copper, helps keep the weld from blowing out, keeps the gas from blowing through, and dissipates the heat.

Friend of mine had a cool copper piece that was on the end of an adjustable arm that was mounted to a magnet. Made it easy to have a copper backing plate wherever you were working.

It is kind of hard to explain, the base is used to hold a small 6x8 piece of plexiglass, placed on older type of equipment, like a drill press with no guards.

My little brain is wondering if that switched magnet would drop off metal grindings when you turn it off (pulls the magnet from the outer case)?

I am using the SEM weld through primer, the copper stuff. Summit Racing had about the best price I could find. I know when I order from them it will be on my porch in 2 days.

Got the patch in place, just in time to take the family out for ice cream! I suppose by the time I get finished with the body work I will be able to cut my patches with a tighter tolerance. I am still fighting gaps that are too large.

I would say it took about 45 minutes to weld it in place, another 30 on the grinder.
