I guess yesterday was 4/20! I was at work until midnight supporting some electrical contractors.

Tonight I replaced the front pinion seal with a homebrew tool to hold the flange, more to come.

The music just felt appropriate.

Cutting patches of rust, welding new patches, grinding new patches, hunting for large, gnarly, aggressive brown trout, drinking Porters and Stouts, one step at a time.......

I have been finishing up on the inside of the bed area rust patching, looks like I may buy the quarter patches. I figure someone else with better tools than I have accessible has already worked the bugs out of making them, sometimes it pays to pay someone for their sweat.

Grinding, grinding, and grinding.

It has also become that time of the year when I hunt large brown trout on waters around the state of PA, so far I have spent some serious time drinking cold beer along some pretty waters, not any serious action on dry flies yet. Yet. Big mayflies seem to have popped off a few weeks early, luckily I have been ready!

Spotted some 40s around southern PA this last few weeks, one left for dead, and 2 behind someone's house that look to be in pretty good shape.

:beer:Porters:smokin:
:beer:Stouts:smokin:

I need to get a "left for dead" 40.

I have found 4 of them within an hour of my house in the last couple months, 2 more that seem to be pretty legit. It is the 4 dead ones in the fields that have been burning in my head. All of them need more work than what they would be worth, Mid-Atlantic rust buckets.

I saw a 45 up in PA a while back, I will upload a pic when I get home!

Or maybe..........

I don't really care if it starts as a 45 or not. I could easily clip a 40 body to make a faux-ty five, or stretch it to make it into a Troopy.

Am seriously considering moving back from Germany by the end of this year.

As usual there is always good music playing in the garage while I am at it.

that's good music? who knew?

Growing up in OK I listened to a wide variety of music, Woody Guthrie, TVZ, spoke the life of parts of my family and friends. I can go from Pantera or Slayer, straight to a Guy Clark or Townes Van Zandt song, flip it over to Pink Floyd and back to Black Label Society. :flipoff2:

I couldn't tell you a single song that comes on a radio station though, unless it is on a classic rock station. :meh:

Today's (mainstream, manufactured, bubble gum, pop country) music sucks.

One patch at a time, the last of the bed areas has been cut out. Tomorrow I will cut the patches and bend one, hopefully I can tack them in later tomorrow night.

It has been a while since I have updated this thread. I have been out chasing trout, working on other rigs, and beer. Most of the patches have been completed on the rear of the tub, I still need to buy some quarter patches for the rear quarters. No sense in trying to spend all the time and effort when someone else has already made one that is pretty close, Real Steel parts will be ordered soon.

Chasing a brake issue on the rear of my truck lead me to a damaged airbag, the steel cable that wraps around the bag to stabilize it has rusted apart and broke. So far Firestone has been pretty helpful (although I don't have a replacement yet), we will see how that goes. The rear brake issue comes and goes, I rebuild the entire rear brake system last year, new rotor/drums, calipers, pads, shoes, the whole nine yards. Now out of nowhere the rear passenger side brake started to stick, I think it is the parking brake portion, tried to adjust it out last weekend, problem came back on the way to work Thursday, went away on the way home............chasing a ghost, that will get repaired this weekend. It is a big difference between working on a FJ40 and a 1 ton Dodge dually, EVERYTHING is heavy and requires a big cheater pipe. And more beer.

Tried to teach my kids a little casting with a fly rod, got each one of them into a couple trout last weekend on a fly rod, keep them interested in it! Both of them did alright, just enough casting and just enough fish on to keep their attention while trying to teach them. Scouted out a few Brookie streams in south west PA, nothing big but looked like it may be a gem.

The 40 has been pushed to the back burner for a short time while other duties take center stage, prepping for a trip to CO, spring yardwork, and normal responsibilities. Still cutting, patching, welding, and grinding away at it. Pics to come soon.

A little bit of progress while it rains, tomorrow I will push it outside so I can back the truck in and work on it.

Clamping some copper bus bar behind the weld to keep it solid and help dissipate the heat is extremely helpful. I think my biggest problem has been cutting my patches to fit, this last one I cut about 1/8" too small. It gets hard to burn that big of a gap together, especially without building up too much heat. Time to grind.

@120mm here is an old tune you may be familiar with, from the man TVZ.

That's a lovely creeper you have there, Ryan!!

Life with kids! Probably better than a transmission jack from Harbor Freight.
