Oh yeah, I'm bookmarking this thread for my online welding class

Seems to me after a round of tack welds it takes about a half a beer for the metal to cool. Keeps the panels from warping and the beer a flowing.

Had to run a kid to the urgent care, she got knocked in the head while playing on a rope swing. She has a good 1 inch cut on her head, I stopped the bleeding, but it should get fixed! Good thing it happened before the next round of tacks and beer.

Thems the breaks---er, ah, cuts. Been there, done that. Good to hear she's in good shape.

One thing I will always remember is the time I just got home from work, my daughter came out riding her bike ( before school age). The training wheel on the bike slipped off the edge of the sidewalk and she tipped over, right onto a garden stake in the flowerbed. She ended up with a checkmark shaped cut in her cheek. I took her inside, and my wife was dealing with a super tiny sliver in brothers hand (twins, so same age). He was screaming bloody murder, while she was standing quietly by with her hand over the cut. Then she pulled her hand away long enough for Mom to see the cut. Now I had two freakouts on my hand, son and wife. Daughter was OK, and Dr was impressed with how calm the daughter was.

It was just a few months ago when the same kid rolled the go-kart! She was out behind my house doing donuts when she rolled it a couple times! The oldest daughter took the brunt of that one, she stuck an arm out and got it caught under part of the cage. Just a bad bruise from that one, but a trip to the urgent care for x-rays! She looked bad when I pulled her out from under the go-kart, I thought she had broken her arm for sure! You should have seen my poker face!

They both learned what to do when they roll now, and why they should have their seat belts and helmets on! I always tell them both, "getting hurt is part of having fun!"

We usually have some derma bond on hand for any place that a scar won't show. I have dealt with a broken collarbone, 20 stitches in an eyebrow, 4 front lower teeth driven in, etc etc. My 3yo was in the e room twice in a week, I was worried that child protective services would show up. It's part of having active kids that arnt parked in front of their I pads.

Exactly! The Dr. asked my 11 year old to keep track of the time on her cell phone, he got laughed at, my kids don't have phones! They play outside and use their imagination, ride bikes, go-karts, rope swings, KID STUFF!

My wife cringes when she sees some of the stuff I teach my kids, but she doesn't stop me. The most important lesson is to not to be afraid of trying new things. My youngest has been riding on my back to the bottom of an 8 ft pool since he has been one. My middle son is a 6yo sushi fiend (he eats octopus and geoduck). Our 8yo daughter is being raised learning that the only thing that a boy can do that she shouldn't do is pee standing up. Kids are great.

Grind, tack, grind, new Porter, clean up the metal dust, Porter, clean, Porter, Porter, Porter, jamming out to some Ozzys' Boneyard on the Sirius satellite

Porter, cut a big patch of rust out. I was thinking of just buying full quarter panels to replace each side when I first picked it up from the sandblaster. After pricing everything I need to fix I decided to tackle all the rust in manageable sections. I have more ambition than money.

Less $$ for steel=more $$ for good beer.

Doesn't get much better than a Bells. If you factor in the therapeutic value of your metal work, it's like you are making money.

Learning that I have the ability to repair the rust and fix it myself, getting to drink quality brew while I'm doing it, makes it all the better.

I have not really had access to good beer that often, but learning that I can repair rust and doing it myself has been the most pleasurable part of doing the Dagha Boy so far.

Yea, though I walk through the Valley of Corrosion, I fear no rust: my new skills are with me, my grinder and MIG welder comfort me.

One trick of the trade is to use a waterbottle with a mist sprayer, dust the heated metal with a mist and it'll shrink the welds dense. And also cool the metal, but, do not over do it, warped panels may result. Practice.
Mmm Bell's....

No need to get in a hurry here, I can always drink a brew and think about it!

That reminds me, I'm thirsty!

Had to take time today for the household chores, mowing season has arrived, tilled the garden, cleaning kids rooms for new furniture, and all the other honey do lists that have been on the back burner.

Hickory smoke, charcoal, and NY strips on the grill, and of course a Porter.
