There is a reason and logic behind every parts Toyota put into the cruiser. Trying to out smart Toyota Engineer is a smart idea, but coming out with a better functional parts is another thing. Same old saying, you can never go wrong with OEM parts and peace of mind is priceless!! ;)
 
My logic & reason:

$100 vs. $0.00

If it doesn't workout. There's always the OEM Toyota as an option.

If you can swing It use OEM. This Is an Important part, I think Its great some guys can fab these Up and they seal. Some men with less experience may be setting themselves up for codes or failures. If your confident you can make It correctly you will be fine. ALL things considered. Good Luck.. ! :)

Don't be afraid to venture out of the box, Folks. You might learn something in the process.

Someone mentioned about rocking motor. The motor on my LC is pretty solid hardly any rocking to speak of when revved. Perhaps you might have a bad motor mount if you have excessive motor movement?

Also, someone mentioned about the pipe heat. It doesn't get any hotter than your OEM rubber intake. It is made of exhaust piping after all. If you're that concern about it, it wouldn't hurt to put one of those heat insulation tape on the underside of the pipe. Remember there's is air moving through the motor when the car is moving. Unless you are parked in one spot with the motor running the whole day, then I wouldn't worry about the heat too much.

Here is what I did on my FJ62. Far more heat resistant and flexible than OE. I've been running this setup over 3 years without any issue. Intake hose went kaputnik
 
There are multiple threads on using different replacements for these. Im sure that any that will last will be perfectly fine. Its only air. No big advantage of aluminum over steel for this. Anything conducts heat, some at a hugher rate but you dont have much surface area here. There are no fins or anything. If the stocker were such good design everyone wouldnt be needing to replace it. Im sure I will bs going this route as $100 for a tube is $$.

Hmmmmm........everything breaks down eventually. If the OEM tube is not a good design that last 18 years and counting on mine, I do not know what is. Well in general many people feels hard to swallow $100 parts while driving a $70k vehicle ( inflation considered ) when it was new. Go figure...... I do not get it too...lol owning and upkeep a cruiser is never cheap....fortunately you are driving a tank if it is loved and cared for. Try owning a BMW, then you will be cursing all day long as $100 parts are hard to come by and keep on breaking....well I did cursed!!
 
During hunting season my 25 year old intake hose broke in the middle of the ribs on the bottom where you couldn't see it. When I put it in reverse, it would just die as the motor mounts flexed and spread the tear apart (I was on a tight trail, no way to turn around without reverse). I had a hard time figuring out what it was! When I did, I slapped some duct tape on it and it worked fine for a couple weeks till I could order a new one. I figure if the first one lasted 25 years and nearly 200K miles $76 for a new one wasn't too steep. TOYOTA AIR CLEANER

Mine was still good for 130k miles for 12 years before I replaced it as pm. In my book, that is great quality. Probably 100k +miles and over 10 years service for a rubber hose needed for replacement is not good enough for everyone.

I was referring to the reason and logic of the PHH design and location.

As for quality of the hose, I bought a dealer serviced LX450 with PHH failed at 67k miles. The fix was a new short block. $8000 later it was all good again. YMMV.

Ohh no!! Sorry to hear that. As for design yes I agree. Toyota could have done better for sure.

The motor moves a lot, not when it's revved, when it's powering or compression braking the rig, especially off road, low range. We used these with good success, got them at a local HD/fleet parts store, the only thing that we found that has flex that I was comfortable with.

If you really want to see how much it flexes you need to put it in gear , hold the brakes, then floor it in reverse then forward. If flex were too had then the exhaust would break too since its hung from the frame. Its hung in rubber but would twist.
