Nice work!! Did you paint the rims and if so do you have the color code for it???

Great Job!! I just did a trailer with Rustoleum silver..you think that could be clear coated too? I know you had a lot of hand work..but I was just hoping to perserve the silver a bit. I still can't believe how good it looks for ACE paint..they ought to put on a commercial:)

Spray gun for Ace paint?

I need a gun to shoot a fender apron and misc. touch up. Should I just get a lower-end touchup gun someplace like Sears, etc., or invest in something of higher quality? Plan to get an economical compressor - minimum size.

This stuff (Ace paint) does seems to take longer than Rustoleum to dry, but could that mean the final finish a bit tougher overall? Color match is great, just took a long time to find a guy (at Ace) who understood what I was after and knew what to do with the machine. I held up a fender apron and he took the measurement. :D

Just buy one rattle can to match from towerpaint.com save you a ton of time and $$$$.

Many Napa auto parts and also some Sherwin Williams centers will mix rattlers as well. Call around if one can isn't enough. They usually go a long way though. Good luck!

I don't know about everyone else's but my ACE just told me that they are discontinuing their version of rustoleum. But i did but a gallon of paint for my troopy and my mower. Figure try painting the mower first, then the troopy (since i have a month or more till it gets here)

As for painting equipment, Harbor Freight is a great place for compressors and paint guns. You can get a nice setup for under $200, and you can order it online and have it shipped to you.

CrazyGreek - Your paint job looks awesome. How much of the Ace paint did you wind up using? It looks like you covered everything in what three coats?
Thanks

help matching rim color

I have set of stock steelies that are black. Want to change to factory gray. Does anyone have the code to match ? I don't have anything to take in and have scan'ed.

Thx

I picked up some Valspar Tractor and Implement enamal in Massy Ferguson gray from Tractor Supply. I just smeared a little on my wheel and it's a pretty close match, just a tad darker, it may change once it dries. I also got some of the Valspar hardener to try with the Ace paint, hopefully it will make it a little tougher.

Got the fenders flattened out..

First pic shows the slight dip in fender, then abracadabra, poof it''s gone.. Straight as can be... plus some dust...

What's a good way to start with body hammers/dollies? Looks like the Martin stuff is good? Snap-on seems way expensive (and looks like it's made by Martin anyway)?

The code for the ACE Rust Stop Paint for OLIVE 653 is

Ingredient | Formula
AXX | 0 18 1
C | 0 25 0
L | 2 16 1

This is how it appears on the side of the can. And no they do not use Auto color codes. I used a color chip and they used the laser spectrometer and created the paint. The color is DEAD ON tho. I sprayed it on next to a area that I shot with Automotive paint at $50.00 a quart using the 653 code. After drying I could not see any color variation. Amazing. And this stuff does not run. Very high solids. I will be shooting clear over it as well.

When I stopped at ACE 5 people were taking a look. One guy took a couple pics... (wow, is this normal?) Picked up a couple bolts n such, then drover her home.

My 62 is in Yota color 155 (it seems that 75%+ are...). Given that I do not want to disassemble the vehicle down to the body, I am going to stcik with this color. Otherwise, that olive is fantastic!

Anybody got an ACE paint formula for the 155 like the one above for the olive? I assume they can dial in the ACE formula without using the laser thingy... I guess I could always remove the fuel door... I'm also considering having Durabak custom make me 5 gallons matched to 155 and going that route, at least for the inside.

I'm going to my ace store today. I called and they said they can scan in my color so its off to buy my paint. :D I will post updates as I get them. I hope mine turns out as well as some of the others.

Reading this thread I saw this post from about 9 months ago. Does Ace still sell this paint?

Also, any chance Greek can post a pictue of his Breathe Green 40? I've been looking all over for a picture of a Cruiser painted that color!

ACE Still carries this line of paint. I had a small batch of 653 OLIVE made up about a month ago.

As far as the Breath Green sample. Well, I am going to paint my rig that color (maybe) but you are in the same boat as me. I have never seen a Breathe Green sample. (at least one that the owner KNOWS its breathe Green)

I have ssen some green rigs on MUD that I think are Breathe but not sure 100%

Let me know when you see one... :)

Where has people found the valspar hardener? Lowes or somewhere else? I stopped by the local Ace and they still have it, you can shot their primer over any high build product or bondo then paint it. I oredred my paint today and will be here by Wednesday.

So the only way to get a particular color at ACE is to bring in the color needed or wanted. They will then produce a gallon of the color matched paint? Where does one go to find a sample of something like the green 40 posted above?
Would really like to try this inexpensive way to paint my cruiser

Thanks

Del:

The 40 pictured in the earlier post is painted in 6h9 "greyish olive." If you would like I could mail you a spray-out sample for color matching; just send me a PM with your mailing address.

The only catch is that you have to post the mixing formula once Ace gives it to you!
