Planning to put this Nippondenso AC compressor on my 1980 FJ40. Questions are - What brackets can I use to mount it? And who has one for sale?

Old thread, I know; but can an FJ62 A/C compressor mount be attached to the stock 1981 alternator bracket on a 2F?
I need to know if I should sell the 3FE mount or use it on my 2FE swap.

I used an FJ60 front right motor mount for the AC compressor along with a bracket to tension the belt that mounts to the bottom of the alternator bracket. Also had to use the lower radiator tube (steel part) from an FJ60 to clear under the belt for the AC comp. All installed on a 1980 FJ40.

The mount fits perfectly, just has the extra tabs to bolt on the AC compressor. I did have to move the battery tray back slightly. Not my truck in the pic, but you can see it here (just under the little fuel filter) I can post pics of mine later if it will help you.

Hmmm.

I'll have to look at the FJ62 engine mount to see if it is similar.

62 series a/c mounts are different. the compressor mounts solidly and is tensioned by a pulley on an all thread. the 62 mount is not a bolt in on a 2F. part of the mount is bolted to the PS pump mount, IIRCC.

the engine mounts are the same distance on 60's and 40's. the frame mounts are different.

also the original poster will need the 3 groove crank pulley to make the a/c work.

Is there room to fit the FJ62 3 groove pulley onto the 2F?

there should be, only difference in the crank pulley's is the 3FE has a smaller diameter a/c pulley. the 3FE's 3 pulleys are very similar in diameter. the 2F has a much larger diameter pulley for the a/c.

I did install a 3 groove pulley from an FJ60. You can see the difference in the pulley size in the first pic in post #9. AC is only thing on the pulley closest to engine, that pulley is much larger than the other 2.

Speaking of pulleys, the alternator in Crump's pic has a corolla pulley for skinney belt. The Cruiser pulley is cast iron and wide enough to accommodate the 17mm belt. Easy to find used on any year of F/2F alternator.

Hunting info on adding compressor to '78 2F and this thread resulted, but thought I'd add:

3FE block is shorter than a 2F but 1.5"-2". Since the 3FE lower mount requires the upper, this leaves a gap to fill where it bolts to the motor mount.

This is amazing. I wish my set up will come like yours. Great pics and info. Very helpful in selecting the right equipment. What condenser, evaporator did you couple the compressor with. Can you share more pictures of the AC layout and the dash. Thanks in advance.
