How many miles on the old hardware? What was condition of idler, tensioner, and especially fan bearing bracket?
I'm at about 1/2 of Kevin's mileage, and I'm pretty fussy about keeping my engine bay clean, but I know his is cleaner than mine down low. I do know my timing chain cover is leaking just a tiny bit, wet but not dripping, so that's a big contributor. The front of your engine looks super clean for 220k. I’m about to hit 170k and mine looks like someone painted it with a quart of oil and a 5# bag of dirt. I was going to suggest checking the timing chain cover/seal and consider replacing if it’s leaking but yours looks fine. Congrats
Mine is getting worse. Sadly I expect somewhere over 200k I’m going to have to address it. For the first time I noticed my oil is down a little bit, maybe 4-6oz per 4k miles, when I check the dipstick. And having had my skid off recently there’s definitely a lot more oil down low than there used to be. Not a huge deal to keep things topped off, but i know it’ll only get worseI'm at about 1/2 of Kevin's mileage, and I'm pretty fussy about keeping my engine bay clean, but I know his is cleaner than mine down low. Most likely the timing chain cover leaning near the top drivers side where it seals against the block. Many of us have this.. pretty sure that is @linuxgod issue. Mine doesn’t hit the ground if I degrease it every oil change. It was mildly present when I got the rig 100k+ ago, and has gotten worse, but not a lot.
once every year or two I’ll hit mine with some degreaser, just to gauge how bad it is. The upper part is dirty but not awful. The bottom front of the engine is a mess I’m embarassed to say. A couple shops wanted ~$3500 for the job so I’m ignoring it until I’m losing more than a quart every oil change, which hopefully is a loooong time from now. I’ll do the chain tensioners at that point too. Hopefully I don’t suffer the rare but dreaded head gasket issue but it’s definitely a reason not to bother with this repair until absolutely necessary because if that does happen the seal is getting replaced anywayMost likely the timing chain cover leaning near the top drivers side where it seals against the block. Did you find anything wrong with your PS pump? I replaced mine but there seemed to be nothing wrong with it. You can get rebuild kits for them too if you wanted to take the time. Since I had already bought the new one, I put it in and now have a spare that I'll likely never use.
