About To Replace Everythanggg On Front of Motor. Any tips or tricks? (3 Viewers)

Hey All

Finally got some time off and able to give the egg some love. Ive read a bazillion posts here about most of this stuff but a tad overwhelmed with it all in various places.

Planned parts im replacing that been sitting in garage mocking me waiting to explode at 220k:

-Water pump (likely original)
-Alternator (likely original)
-Serp Belt
-Power Steering Pump (likely culprit of my increasing whine/squeal)
-Power Steering Resi (likely original)
-Idlers and Tensioners (likely original)
-Fan Clutch (likely original)
-Fan Clutch bracket/bearing thing (likely original)
-Thermostat
-AC clutch (may leave as is when i get it all apart if its in good shape)

Any other "while im in there" things i am missing?

Radiator and all related hose, all fairly new OEM already, so leaving as is.

Main things looking to clarify, best way to bleed PS after replacing pump and resi? See several various methods.

Plan:
Yank radiator to give my large ogre ass room to work, remove fan shroud, and fan as one, then the rest seems fairly straight forward, but.....?

Any additional tips and tricks?

Not quite the front of the engine, but while you're already deep in there...

If the starter and piggybacked starter relay is original, I would absolutely change it.

Change PCV.

Give the valley plate a good stare down. Possibly even remove the intake manifold for a complete inspection. And be 80% ready to do the valley plate reseal.

It's a nice mild weather weekend perfect for wrenching.

Save the valley plate for another session as it's more top than front. Definitely would put a priority on the starter as that is a known vulnerability and risk to adventure travels.

Fail on my part. I did the starter on my Tundra and it wasn’t all that bad. Assumed (we know how that goes) 200 was similar since same motor, so I put that on the back burner. FAIL

Just read up on it for the 200. Yikes

Won’t be replacing starter (didn’t buy one) with this batch of work, but will have one on standby soon.

The 5mm allen head on the tensioner likes to round out, even without corrosion. A new bolt and a bolt extractor bit would be good to have on hand. I ended up finding one at Ace that was a few millimeters too long and just ground it to size, but there is an official Toyota part number.

Cant for the life of me get the lower passenger side radiator bolt off, cant even get socket on it

Got extensions, got swivels, can’t get past the AT cooler for the life of me.

FSM says it has to come off, and as does the front bumper, but many here said the bumper doesn’t have to come off. Did yall have to remove the AT cooler?

Anything here different than what yall had on other years?

Being a stubborn SOB and refusing to accept defeat, went and took another look at it

Puzzled as to why folks and FSM struggle with the main bolt rather than the easy access ones on the bracket, thought they’d be a catch/reason, but I figured I’d try that route rather than taking even more stuff apart I didn’t have to.

Had it out in 5 mins, with no damage.

In my searching here, saw lots of mention of belts from dealer being gates or dayco (or was it Delco?)

This one from Olathe just says Toyota

I’ve never seen Toyota on an actual belt

It depends on the year, mostly. On my 13 LC I can stare right at the front of that bolt through a lower grille opening. So I didn’t know why some respected users here were swearing up and down that what you did was easier. Turns out…

Ahhh.. gotcha..

You’re AT cooler must be in a different spot. Mine is totally blocking that bolt, and seems like quite an ordeal to remove it.

Could you share your year and model I mean LC or LX. I Also want to start buying parts and if you have part nos handy for the above things you changed, that would be super helpful. I'm going to slowly start buying parts and build a stash for when I eventually do this.

I'm probably too late, but when removing/ installing the radiator, I would cut a piece of cardboard that fits over the fragile fins to protect them while wrestling the thing in and out. Make it 2 pieces with a seam down the middle then hold in place with painters tape at the top. The seam makes it easier to get it out around the hose connection after you get it installed.

Plan on removing the right front wheel to get better access to the PS pump and alternator. Ratcheting gear wrenches are a huge help, IIRC.
